A Crown of Candy, episode 1: There Is Strength in Sweetness
On the 20th day of Highbright in the Year of Our Bulb 1215, the morning of Princesses Jet and Ruby Rocks's eighteenth Saint's Day, Sir Theobald Gumbar, Lord Commander of the Tartguard, found Chancellor Lapin Cadbury lecturing two straw scarecrows set in the princesses' places. The twins, in peasant clothes, had run off to Dulcington, and Theobald, Lapin and Sir Toby followed the smashed royal seals and caught them at the Mint Drake. After Queen Caramelinda punished the twins, their father King Amethar Rocks gave Jet the Twizzling Blade and Ruby the bow Sourscratch, and the queen showed him the emperor's letter and announced a caravan to Comida, with Liam Wilhelmina, a peppermint ward, to go along. She ordered the princesses kept fully in Theobald's sight and had Lapin instruct them in the lore of the Bulbian faith. During the Saint's Day festivities Lapin slipped away, and Jet and Liam followed and overheard him with the Sugar-Plum Fairy; they told Ruby and planned to use the secret. Next morning the envoy left on the Sucrosi Road, where a fallen tree blocked the way, arrows struck the carriages and Ruby took 16 damage. 00:00:00–02:00:21
A Crown of Candy, episode 2: Ambush On the Sucrosi Road
On the 23rd day of Highbright the ambush on the Sucrosi Road went on, and an arrow went through Ruby's throat as she did a handstand on the carriage roof. Unconscious, she heard a voice in a dark place that said its brother had made quite a family for himself and asked her to take good care of its bow; it never said whether it was her aunt. Amethar raged out of the back door into the brigands, Theobald beheaded one with Green Flame Blade and forced their captain into a duel, and Jet dealt her first wound to a living man. Theobald took an arrow for the king, Lapin healed Amethar and Ruby, and Ruby found that Sourscratch fired a Grasping Arrow, which killed the captain; Lapin and Calroy Cruller each killed an archer. Imperial infantry under Commander Grissini arrived, Liam called them to the king in Ceresian, and Jet landed her first killing blow before the last archer fell to Imperial javelins. Afterwards Grissini apologised, the Imperials freed a bound Candian family, Lapin lied to Grissini about Ruby's magic, and Calroy warned that if the king were told the wrong way, "you know how he's going to solve the problem" 02:04:07. 00:00:19–02:04:38
A Crown of Candy, episode 3: Keep Sharp
While the fallen tree was cleared, Calroy told Ruby she must learn discretion, Theobald called the attack coordinated, and Liam found three heart seeds in the tree, which Preston ate and gained flight. On the road through Fructera, Theobald told Ruby, Jet and Liam that the Archmage Lazuli had taught him, that she had died in battle after she "took out battalions of enemy forces, and we lost no one but her" 00:36:31, and that they should keep studying magic in secret. Amethar woke at full health and thanked Lapin. On the 30th of Highbright the envoy reached Comida and the Cornucopian Hall, where the party met Primsy Coldbottle, Annabelle Cheddar, the Pontifex Belizabeth Brassica, Senator Ciabatta, Prince Cabbage and Thaddeus Strongpit; Basha Myaso stared at Amethar and was told to watch his mouth. Heralds announced the Grand Tournament with three boons, and Ruby and Liam signed up for archery, Theobald for the joust and Jet for the melee. The ill emperor Gustavo Uvano then received Amethar in his bedchamber and spoke to him of a great service. 00:00:19–02:20:14
A Crown of Candy, episode 4: The Grand Tournament
On the first of Brightdusk, 1215, the Grand Tournament began at Comida, with a boon, the naming of a candidate and a seat on the Cornucopian Council at stake. Jet announced in public that she would not wed and offered Annabelle an alliance, and Theobald unhorsed Lady Plumbeline Uvano in the joust. In the melee Amethar brushed against a gladiator and Sir Keradin Deeproot, felt something sharp, and was soon taking poison damage as his throat began to close. Liam cast Detect Poison and Disease, revealed the poison and the poisoned daggers and marked Keradin with Hunter's Mark, while Lapin healed the king. When Lapin shouted for the fight to be called off, the Pontifex cried, "Stop this at once! Sir Keradin, kneel!" 01:21:27, and Annabelle tackled Keradin. In the garrison dungeon Keradin named Primogen Alfredi under Lapin's questioning, and Grissini sent forty soldiers to arrest her. 00:00:19–01:57:01
A Crown of Candy, episode 5: Lapin's Big Day
Keradin had named Primogen Fettucina Alfredi as the source of the water steel daggers, and Grissini arrested her in the Great Pyramid by the emperor's authority. Senator Ciabatta, who had proposed a secret night expedition to Lapin, met Jet and Ruby at a bakery, killed a guard at a Ceresian palazzo and burned and took papers in Alfredi's laboratory there, while the princesses pocketed notes on the Pontifex. In the emperor's bedchamber Gustavo gave Liam a seat on the Council and named Amethar emperor. The Pontifex then demanded Lapin's allegiance, announced that Alfredi and Keradin were in Church custody and ordered Liam arrested for witchcraft; Church knights led by Lapin came for him, and Liam, Theobald and Preston spent the night in a cold cell. Bells announced that Gustavo had died in his sleep; at the cathedral Plumbeline first claimed Ciabatta had been named but, sworn on the relic, said Gustavo had not named him, and the Pontifex asked Amethar about his marriage. He admitted an earlier marriage that had never been annulled, excommunication, the loss of his title and the secession of Candia followed, and the Pontifex cried "Guards, seize them!" 02:14:00 as initiative was rolled. 00:00:20–02:14:14
A Crown of Candy, episode 6: Chaos in the Cathedral
In the cathedral Jet charged the Pontifex and stabbed her with a water steel dagger for 30, while Amethar ordered the Tartguard to hold off the Imperial soldiers and threw Jet up to a gallery where priests with crossbows waited. Keradin hit Liam for 31, and Lapin cast Fly on Theobald, who carried Liam, Preston and Ruby to the balcony. Ruby shot the Pontifex with a Grasping Arrow and Amethar wounded her, until Archbishop Onionpatch carried her away. Keradin struck Lapin for 51 and brought him down, and the Tartguard fell. Theobald broke through a window and fell out; Jet jumped with Liam, and Amethar threw Ruby out and jumped after her, with Theobald catching him. The Pontifex gave the dying Lapin one last turn; he said, "The Bulb cares for no one." 01:41:29, the Sugar-Plum Fairy's voice spoke, and Keradin killed him as the survivors fled into the streets of Comida. 00:00:19–01:42:19
A Crown of Candy, episode 7: Escape From the Bulb Creeps
Wounded, the party ran through the alleys of Comida while bells tolled, and five flashbacks came on them: Ruby scolded by Queen Caramelinda as a child, Amethar at 24 as his sisters Rococoa, Citrina, Sapphria and Lazuli reacted to his marriage, Liam being given the piglet Preston, Theobald standing before the Archmage Lazuli, and Jet in a fencing hall with Lord Cruller. At the alley they found Thaddeus Strongpit half-undressed and hallucinating; Ruby cast Sleep and Disguise Self as Thad, and they rode out in his carriage as "Lord Strongpit". Yak's scouting showed Imperial banners on the Glucian Road and an unpoliced harbour, so they chose the sea and hid in crates aboard Annabelle's ship, the Colby, during Primsy's wedding to Stilton. Ruby sent a Message to Sir Morris Brie, "The House of Rocks has fallen and all is lost. Help." 01:07:56, and the party heard of the emperor's death and Candia's war. Grissini's Imperials boarded and could not open the crates; once the Colby was at sea Annabelle and a dozen sailors burst in, and the party became prisoners and guests bound for Lacramor. Primsy served tea and spoke of Stilton, and House Bleu's ships closed in, shot arrows, and one rammed the Colby. 00:00:20–01:52:36
A Crown of Candy, episode 8: Deep Bleu Sea
In a night storm the Colby was sinking in the Yogurt Shoals after the Dairy Air of House Bleu had rammed her, and House Bleu's Marauders boarded. Lord Stilton Curdeau swung onto the Colby and ran Primsy through the stomach, telling her he was happy for the throne she had given him. A red fog brought Cumulous Rocks into the middle of the boat, where he knocked three Marauders into the sea; Jet then fought Stilton and killed him, and with him died the architect of the assassination attempt on the Sucrosi Road. Jet got Primsy into a lifeboat and stabilised her, Liam and Ruby killed Marauder captains, and Amethar jumped to the ship Liam had leapt onto; Annabelle held the sinking Colby up for a time but went down with it, and Liam cleared the ship La Fondue of enemy soldiers. Annabelle came aboard and told Liam, "Something's changed, and I have to say, I think I like it." 02:11:20 Afterwards Cumulous was revealed as a distant cousin of the Rocks, wearing Lazuli's lapis eye, and he described the Order of the Spinning Star. 00:00:19–02:21:14
A Crown of Candy, episode 9: Safe Harbor
After the storm, aboard La Fondue, Primsy declared on behalf of the Dairy Islands that they did not recognise Amethar's excommunication, and at a parley she said that the title of Concordant Emperor could not be stripped by it. At Port Syrup, with Imperial warships sunk in the harbour, Sir Morris Brie and Manta Ray Jack met the party, and Manta Ray told them that Ceresian troops surrounded Castle Many Licks and that Calroy had helped them past the lines, and Ruby's vision from Lazuli settled the plan to go up the Cola River to Castle Candy. At Castle Candy before dawn Queen Caramelinda embraced them, and when Calroy asked after the Chancellor Jet answered, "The Chancellor sacrificed himself to save Prince Liam and the rest of us." 01:22:48 At the stone circle the Sugar-Plum Fairy asked Cumulous to bring the royal family to the Great Stone Candy Mountains, and he said he would think on it. Calroy then took Amethar to the ramparts, stabbed him in the back, boasted that he had sold weapons to the Ceresians, that Rococoa had been dealt with when she found out, and that he had a hand in the Sucrosi Road attack and the water steel daggers, and threw him over the wall. In the attic masked figures with water steel ambushed Jet, Ruby and Liam and Ciabatta was unmasked; Ruby fled invisible, Jet's death saves failed, and as the light in her locket went out Amethar, falling, knew she was gone. 00:00:19–02:15:56
A Crown of Candy, episode 10: Blood & Bread
Locked in with Sir Toby's body, Theobald killed the Muffinfield guards, found Queen Caramelinda, shielded her from crossbows and led her to a secret door. Ruby, invisible, felt Jet's life slip away and ran to the stone circle, where the Sugar-Plum Fairy said she could not bring Jet back and told her to go north to the Great Stone Candy Mountains. Liam, in the Rope Trick, watched Jet's spirit leave, wrapped her body in tear-away lingerie and followed the locket in the dark; in the crater Ruby wept, "I think Jet's dead!" 00:18:32, and Amethar answered that he knew. Ruby told Caramelinda that Jet had died in an ambush, and the party set out for Manta Ray Jack's ship, sprinting through the dark past hounds and a Vegetanian chariot that Cumulous drove into a crevasse. Ruby called Cumulous a spy while Theobald said he had been sent to protect them. In Dulcington they cut down Ceresian soldiers, fetched Jet's body from a shop, and sailed up the river with Amethar holding it. 00:00:33–01:35:37
A Crown of Candy, episode 11: At the Mountains of Sweetness
On a pink hill on the 24th of Brightdusk the party dug a grave for Jet in sight of the ship; Amethar planted Payment Day at its foot, Ruby was numb and Liam wept for Preston. Ruby blamed herself and threw her consciousness into Yak, and Theobald dismissed Sprinkle in tears and began Find Familiar, which brought a licorice viper. Caramelinda confronted Theobald, "And who was watching over her, Sir Theobald, when she fell?" 00:20:59, and they reconciled that evening, while Cumulous gave Ruby a necklace. Crossing Muffinfield and the mountains, the party was netted in a pass by forty crossbow marauders and marched in manacles to a fortress cave. There Queen Saccharina of House Frostwhip claimed to be the legal queen and Amethar's daughter; Amethar told her that Joren Jawbreaker was now king and threw his crown at her feet. Saccharina said she was Lazuli's niece and named the Sugar-Plum Fairy as the one hiding Candia's magic in the Ice Cream Temple, and the party agreed to go to Jawbreaker through the Order of the Spinning Star's teleportation circle, which dropped them near Ceresian soldiers. 00:00:30–02:29:27
A Crown of Candy, episode 12: Rescue at Buzzybrook
Arriving by the Sweetening Path at stones in an alpine village, the party found the burnt remains of Buzzybrook and Ceresian soldiers herding Candian villagers into the square, and hid with Pass Without Trace. Duke Joren Jawbreaker was led to the gallows and the trapdoor opened, but Theobald Misty Stepped to the gallows and cut the rope with Green-Flame Blade, and Saccharina Thunder Stepped Joren out and stabilised him. Liam shot Archbishop Onionpatch through a window, Cumulous killed a priest and a knight, and Amethar raged and sent the villagers into the sugar hut, where Caramelinda held the spell. Saccharina's Lightning Bolt killed four infantry and burned Grissini, Ruby freed Spearia, and Amethar asked Grissini, "Do you remember my daughter?" 01:30:44 Liam, disguised as Onionpatch, terrified the archbishop into talking about the commander's tent, killed him and took his book, and Ruby took the map of Calorum and the troop movements from the tent. As Keradin appeared and bread golems tore the hut apart, the ice melted, the runes flowed and Joren woke and spoke to Liam as "Preston". 00:00:19–02:19:15
A Crown of Candy, episode 13: Family Ties
Back at the Order of the Spinning Star, Spearia fed Joren sap from her wrist, thanked the party and hugged Liam, and she sensed that Ruby and Saccharina were half-sisters. On the sixth day of Harvest Dawn the party took stock of the war, the Concord, the Church and the Ice Cream Temple, and Cumulous pledged the Order to Saccharina while five dozen monks bowed. Joren and Spearia left for Castle Manylicks with Manta Ray Jack's crew to rally the troops for a new coronation. The party teleported to the high mountains, and Saccharina opened the temple gate with her spoon; inside they found a library with a page of the Dracoria Azucar and an egg in the spire. The Sugar-Plum Fairy appeared with gifts, spoke to Ruby and offered her the road into the mist, saying "I sent my little bunny, Lapin, and I knew that he would die to protect you" 01:59:35. Ruby refused, asked whether the Fairy had killed her sister, and drew her bow as initiative was called. 00:00:19–02:00:11
A Crown of Candy, episode 14: Encounter in the Ice Cream Temple
The Sugar-Plum Fairy granted a wish to show her true form, a many-winged, many-faced figure; Saccharina countered her first area attack with Counterspell, while Cumulous leaped to the spire, was hit by a Ray of Frost and impaled by an icicle for 52, and fell into the egg chamber. Liam ate the peppermint heart seed and a wild magic surge turned everyone nearby invisible, and Ruby swung through the mist on a rope. The Fairy linked her shadow to Ruby, and when Amethar hit the Fairy the wound opened on Ruby, who said, "If you hit her, it hurts me." 00:58:58 Saccharina's Create Bonfire opened the egg, and a baby Dracoria Azucar leapt into her arms. Ruby's Green-Flame Blade killed the Fairy, who had asked whether Ruby could come home with her. Afterwards the voices of Rococoa, Lazuli, Citrina and Sapphria spoke to Ruby and Jet's shadow returned; Ruby told Saccharina she could not be both sister and queen, and Saccharina chose to be her queen. As they left, Liam found an ancient nest of old eggshells and an ember, and a hand grabbed his throat. 00:00:19–01:57:52
A Crown of Candy, episode 15: The Two Balls
In a flashback to the 15th day of Frostdawn, 1196, five-year-old Saccharina waited at the Abbey of the Shimmering Cream for her mother's boat; the Mother Superior beat her and branded her chest with the Bulb's symbol while she kept saying her father was Amethar of House Rocks. Back at the temple, Liam had a vision in which he met Lapin in a ruined library gathering dreams and wishes for The Hungry One, and chose the wish of change from three that circled him. In a strange room of the temple Liam, Amethar and Ruby saw memories, among them Lapin as a young thief and his bargain with the Sugar-Plum Fairy, and Amethar's four sisters. The loot went to Castle Manylicks, which House Jawbreaker had retaken; on Liam's eighteenth Saints Day Joren gave him the Chillguard, and Spearia crowned Saccharina queen in a Sweetening Path ceremony, after which Primsy swore to her. Port Syrup lay in ruins, and Amethar found Sir Morris Brie's armour fused to a church door, and Annabelle told Amethar that Catherine Ghee's grave had been found on the Isle of Crumble. Amethar told Caramelinda his wife was dead, and she answered, "You are the King of Candia!" 02:13:26 00:00:34–02:13:26
A Crown of Candy, episode 16: For Candia! (Part 1)
The Dairy ships sailed up the Cola River with hidden soldiers below decks and were stopped by the lost Knights of the Order of North-Gumbia. On the ship Caramelinda told Ruby that Catherine Ghee had died on the 12th of Harvestdusk, 1196, and said, "We are married and you are true-born." 00:04:59 The family agreed to keep it quiet until after the battle. The war council settled on a night attack, and Saccharina confided in Theobald and he pledged his sword to her. The army was placed, with Cumulous leading the marauders and monks, Liam the Jawbreaker archers, Theobald the Knights of North-Gumbia, Amethar the Rocks units with Joren, and Saccharina with the invisible Cinnamon. In the battle at Dulcington Ruby's ambush broke a Vegetanian unit, Cinnamon destroyed ballistae, and Keradin and Vegetanian knights emerged; when Plumbeline's chariot charge knocked Theobald prone, Liam flanked her and killed her. 00:00:19–02:12:37
A Crown of Candy, episode 17: For Candia! (Part 2)
The battle went on with Theobald and Liam in an empty chariot, Amethar and Joren charging Grissini's unit, and Keradin calling Liam a sinner. Keradin, glimpsing Liam's face as his own, swung at Theobald, missed with all three attacks and collapsed; Liam later appeared behind him disguised as Keradin, shot him for 56 damage, killing him, and carried his body away. Cinnamon's Cone of Cold and Fire Breath ruined the Vegetanian archers and paladins, Joren was shot through the throat and fell, and Cumulous's monks and marauders took the wall; Ruby stabbed the burned Ciabatta to death with her water steel dagger, and Liam shot the Pontifex off the keep wall and took the Book of Saint Citrina. Amethar and Cumulous cornered Calroy, who called Amethar "the Unfallen", and Amethar cut him in half, ending the siege at dawn. Saccharina asked Amethar whether he wanted to be king and he deferred to her; Theobald realised the Book could restore the Concord, and Amethar swore on it that Gustavo had named him emperor, and Primsy recognised the claim for the Dairy Islands. Liam ate the seed and wished Candia into growing to 400 percent, Lapin bade him farewell, and Amethar became Emperor, remarking, "And as Emperor, this is going to be a nightmare." 02:12:14 00:00:19–02:24:40
