The Hungry One
The Hungry One is named once, by the Pontifex, in a conversation with Lapin CC E3·01:50:29. She tells him that, as chaplain, she trusts he is counseling the king and the young princesses to help stomp out more primitive and backwards ways, because she would not wish to see the good people of Candia led down the path towards the Hungry One CC E3·01:50:29. Lapin answers that it would never happen on his watch CC E3·01:50:48.
The Hungry One is first named in CC_03, where the Pontifex warns Lapin against the path towards it CC E3·01:50:29. In CC_05 Brennan explains that the Prophidian Heresy was a belief, popular for a time among Bulbian priests, that the Hungry One was as powerful as the Bulb, later ruled not part of church doctrine CC E5·02:09:12. In CC_09 Brennan says the Ramsian Doctrine holds that the final destruction of the Hungry One by the Bulb cannot happen until the Hungry One devours the world, and that junk food in the world prevents this because the Hungry One wants a healthy meal CC E9·00:42:46 CC E9·00:44:18. Theobald suggests the Pontifex may be directly working for the Hungry One, and Cumulous says he draws his strength from it but does not worship it CC E9·00:51:04 CC E9·00:51:18 CC E9·00:51:29.
In CC_15 Liam is pulled into swirling red and says the Hungry One has eaten him, and later says he has been feeling the Hungry One CC E15·00:24:43 CC E15·00:25:40 CC E15·00:29:30. Lapin says the afterlife he and the others were in is a sick dream of the Sugar Plum Fairy and that they all have to go to the Hungry One, which is not necessarily bad CC E15·00:30:05 CC E15·00:30:27 CC E15·00:30:38. He says the Bulb and the Hungry One are not gods but forces, light and dark, one creating and one destroying, and that one of the three wishes looks like the cinnamon dragon, the Hungry One, with the energy to destroy CC E15·00:34:20 CC E15·00:35:11 CC E15·00:35:39 CC E15·00:38:50. In CC_17 Brennan says the dragon is of the Hungry One and fed on the power of the Bulb CC E17·02:20:59.
