The Times of Shadow
What happens
- 00:00:53 Brennan welcomes the audience to the season, "a brand new season of horror and tales from beyond", and the intrepid heroes.
- 00:02:02 Brennan tells the opening tale: a king and queen, a newborn princess, four great fairies of whom only three were invited; the uninvited fourth curses the princess to die at 18 on a spindle, the third softens it to a sleep of 100 years until true love's first kiss; the princess pricks her finger and the whole kingdom sleeps behind thorns.
- 00:05:06 Rosamund wakes after 100 years, immobile, with briars growing out of her mouth and nostrils; Constitution save 4, four damage; she frees a hand, pulls the briars out with a Medicine check, hears a whispered voice.
- 00:16:15 Rosamund's bloody hand shows her hundreds of corpses and princes' crowns in the briars; the briars speak ("Dearest Rosamund, stay with us") and offer a spindle; she escapes through a window.
- 00:22:21 She travels days, weeks, months through the briars and emerges with a thorn bow.
- 00:23:57 Rosamund wakes in a cargo wagon of a caravan on a road; beside her is Gerard under a blanket; they compare titles and curses; at the group meeting 01:30:38 "cousins three times".
- 00:28:18 Boffit, a trollson manager of the caravan, calls out a stop for the horses; he mocks Gerard's claim to be a prince.
- 00:30:06 Gerard's flashback: his head under bathwater for ten minutes, frog traits returning, his nose gone, and a dinner with his wife Princess Elody and her captains discussing the war with Snowhold.
- 00:41:00 Boffit rides to a carriage shaped like an enormous shoe; Lord Bandlebridge toasts with Pib and Pinocchio, who are working a scam about a cursed prince and 40 gold pieces.
- 00:49:36 Alone, Pinocchio and Pib drop the act, search the shoe (Investigation), and Pib sees himself in a mirror hungry.
- 00:52:02 Pib's flashback: a life of luxury as advisor to the Marquis de Carabas, King of Marienne, followed by Tomas's talk of "giants at the border" and the night the walls came down, when "a foot larger than a house smashes the mill" (00:54:04, 00:57:00).
- 00:57:54 Pinocchio fools Bandlebridge into giving up his chambers (Persuasion 22); Pib's Insight is a natural 20; Pib's Deception is 14; Pib spots a scroll in Bandlebridge's pouch but leaves it.
- 01:03:02 The last carriage: Timothy Goose and Ylfa describe themselves; Boffit asks Timothy to tell stories by an enchanted log fire to ward off goblins.
- 01:09:19 The Chandling Caravan circles up in the Blackwood; the Shoeberg lord, Pib and Pinocchio, and a man with a ram-drawn chariot are among the travellers.
- 01:11:23 Timothy and Ylfa meet Lord Bandlebridge; Timothy's Insight is 19; Bandlebridge says 01:14:56 Shoeberg is "one of the few thriving metropolises left here in the Neverafter".
- 01:18:19 Timothy sees something in the shadows behind Bandlebridge and curses at it aloud.
- 01:19:16 Timothy's flashback in Pottingham: bones of his son Jack, three wishes, a blank book, and the nursery rhyme that drives off the gander.
- 01:29:23 The groups meet; royals and the scammers introduce themselves; the red hen announces that those who do not help do not eat.
- 01:36:02 Bandlebridge calls Pinocchio out as no prince of Shoeberg; Timothy's Intimidation (19) and a chariot warrior back Pinocchio; Pib takes the scroll (sleight of hand 15).
- 01:40:16 Pinocchio goes into the shoe with Pib hesitant; coachman Stephan threatens them; Ylfa's hairy paw pulls Pinocchio out and she catches a soldier's sword, and her flashback at her family's door follows.
- 01:51:52 Ylfa stands holding a sword blade; Bandlebridge calls it off; the party shares true names.
- 01:55:21 The chariot warrior, Cole, talks about Shoeberg, his lost Kingdom of Jubilee, and a Princess Elody of Greenleigh as a warrior.
- 02:02:02 Rosamund tries to call forest creatures for help (natural 1) and meets an ostrich; the others gather food; Pinocchio finds a carriage door with a key in it.
- 02:05:07 Inside, a long hallway; the Stepmother tells Pinocchio to keep the Princess of Reverie safe and hidden; flashback to the Wicked Fairy's game with village children and Pinocchio's death.
- 02:12:14 End of the episode.
- 02:12:14 Next-time preview (see Table talk).
