The Gander

The Gander is a goose fifteen feet tall, black as midnight, with a dinosaur-like craning head on a long neck, sickly yellow eyes and a blood-red bonnet on its head NA E1·01:26:08. In Timothy's flashback, as he writes the nursery rhyme "Jack be nimble", light fills the room, the Gander honks outside, and Brennan shows it NA E1·01:25:56 NA E1·01:26:02 NA E1·01:26:08. When Timothy asks "Did you put that on yourself?", the Gander answers "I put it on myself! Honk!" NA E1·01:26:28 NA E1·01:26:29 Brennan says the rhyme abjures it and compels it into the storm clouds, and that the Gander is gone for the moment, though Timothy feels its presence NA E1·01:26:34 NA E1·01:28:54.

In the third episode Timothy's last vision shows the Gander in its bonnet, and he tells it to take the bonnet off its head NA E3·02:13:30 NA E3·02:13:34. When Timothy says he has his third wish right there, the Gander answers "Granted." and bites his finger off, and Timothy dies NA E3·02:13:44 NA E3·02:13:52 NA E3·02:13:55. In the afterlife of the fourth episode the Golden Goose tells Timothy the Gander is her other half, her shadow and her brother, says the book was granted by the Gander through a clever wish, and says that wherever the Gander goes the times of shadow come NA E4·02:06:29 NA E4·02:11:36. In the fifth episode the Gander speaks to Timothy from the shadows, saying that when mandibles find his throat he will feel like making a wish NA E5·01:58:17 NA E5·01:58:41.

In the ninth episode the party sees a massive winged Gander with lightning at its beak over the Neverafter, and Brennan says it is in pain NA E9·01:43:05 NA E9·01:44:45. It says "You think it's bad now? I'm cooking something up even worse." NA E9·01:45:54 It cries "Don't learn lessons from my torment!" NA E9·01:47:08 It tells Tim that his wish to save his son and the Neverafter was a bum wish and that it will be waiting for the third NA E9·01:48:39. In the eleventh episode Mother Goose's shadow becomes the Gander's winged, long-necked shape and asks "Just about ready, Tim?" NA E11·00:59:15 Brennan says the shadow vanishes when Mother Goose makes no wish NA E11·00:58:42 NA E11·01:02:49. Timothy tells Mira he got his powers from the Gander through a wish NA E12·01:40:38. Alba says the Gander's wrath is great and that she fears he seeks his long lost twin NA E14·00:17:28. When the Cloak of Stars goes wrong in the fifteenth episode the Gander comes through a rip in space asking "where is she? She's not supposed to be anywhere I am!", and Brennan says it is cut in half by a seam of gold NA E15·02:03:24 NA E15·02:07:26.

At the Castle of the North Wind in the seventeenth episode the Gander arrives greeting the Golden Goose with "Hello, sister!" NA E17·01:23:35 and firing a laser from its mouth NA E17·01:23:43. It says "You are not to coexist in the realms in which I travel!" NA E17·01:23:58 When the Goose makes Timothy's third wish, it says "Your wish is my command." and tears her apart, then cries that the world of story is its own forever NA E17·01:25:26 NA E17·01:29:04. In Mother Goose's vision in the eighteenth episode the Gander's voice speaks to Jack while he wishes NA E18·01:35:24. In the finale Mother Goose releases his spell, the Gander appears too late to act, and plummets as the ink spreads NA E20·01:54:24 NA E20·02:01:05. In the farewells a new feather pierces its heart like a quill, and the Golden Goose asks her brother what new story he would write NA E20·02:16:18 NA E20·02:16:29. In Mother Goose's epilogue Brennan says the Gander shakes off the will of its Author and chooses to fly through the lands of fairy tale bearing a wise witch on his back, and Jack traded his cow for it, a jet-black Gander with a red bonnet NA E20·02:21:14 NA E20·02:22:09.
