The Ending of All Things (Part 2)
What happens
- 00:00:53 Brennan opens and the table plays at being in a library. Recap (recap): Snow White has been struck down by an arrow from Sleeping Beauty; Rapunzel and the Beast are defeated; Cinderella is grappling in the air with the Baba Yaga; Elody and Mira have for the moment joined the party; Scheherazade is at zero hit points but stable, her book in Cinderella's hands; the whole conclave of fairies has burst in and is leaping into action with access to the ink, "the will of the Authors made manifest"; the thrum of the ink attracts the attention of horrifying things far away. Initiative order continues with Gerard (00:00:53, 00:01:18, 00:01:28).
- 00:02:54 Gerard's turn: asks whether Scheherazade's book could be used (Brennan: it opens doors, and she is "down but not out"), jumps to Scheherazade and gives her a Goodberry, then goes to Tom Thumb. Scheherazade rises at one hit point and asks for her book; Mother Goose points to Cinderella and the Baba Yaga. Mira asks Ylfa "Are you going after them or are you staying here?" and, on her answer, gives a thumbs up, sprints down the ziggurat and stands in front of Rosamund with a knife. The Fairy Godmother hits Gerard for 7 radiant (00:03:05, 00:03:22, 00:04:35, 00:04:52, 00:05:09, 00:05:19, 00:05:58).
- 00:06:06 Pib: Perception 22 for the cutbacks (they lie under the sheets of paper), returns near Pinocchio, Stealth 25, Insight 15 on the ink (volatile, "Something could definitely set it off"). The fairies fire: three shots at Mira (all hit), three at Elody (all miss, she raises her shield). Mother Goose asks Scheherazade what is happening: Snow White's spell is still locked up in the ink; the two storytellers can turn all their effort to unweaving it or to Mother Goose's plan, and if both spells are in the ink "maybe they would both happen". Mother Goose Healing Words Rosamund, moves to Snow White's old spot, tries for a book as cover (Arcana 7 against DC 15), and begins concentrating on a spell; cold voices say "Once more, something draws us back." (00:06:16, 00:06:58, 00:07:19, 00:07:35, 00:08:14, 00:09:24, 00:10:14, 00:10:35).
- 00:11:34 Cinderella (invisible) struggles in the Baba Yaga's grip; Mother Goose's Cutting Words keeps her held. Elody climbs the ziggurat and gives Gerard a friendly kiss; her aura gives allies within 30 feet a d4 on saves and attacks. Ylfa, as a brown bear, leaps onto the Baba Yaga's flying mortar, rips the book from Cinderella (24 to 24), throws it to Scheherazade, and falls to the narrow bridge (Dex save 13; 12 damage). The Orange Fairy rolls a critical hit on her; Ylfa saves (00:11:47, 00:12:35, 00:13:29, 00:14:02, 00:15:47, 00:16:51, 00:17:49, 00:18:09, 00:19:35, 00:19:54).
- 00:20:20 Scheherazade, book in hand, puts her concentration on Snow White's spell to take away a round and opens a door: Aesop arrives ("Keep it simple!"). Rosamund summons birds, one of them Beaky as Pib's mount, goes into Starry Form Archer and crits the Blue Fairy for 25; Pinocchio animates five book-objects (including Flat William), giving the storytellers total cover, and fails another Persuasion on Cinderella (DC now 15). The Fairy with Turquoise Hair begs Pinocchio to let them fix it; he says he gave up being a boy; the Baba Yaga says what the fairy wants for the boy is hers now (00:20:43, 00:23:39, 00:25:13, 00:27:45, 00:30:19, 00:31:19, 00:31:34, 00:31:48).
- 00:32:04 The Red Fairy hurts Elody. The Baba Yaga freezes Cinderella with Hold Person and tosses her; Ylfa catches her. The Wicked Fairy drops Mira and speaks to Rosamund. Gerard's Persuasion (19) on the Turquoise-haired fairy: she listens, "considering your words"; the ink moves and the hand of an Author appears; the fairies panic; Ylfa takes 12 and 19 necrotic and is Frightened (paralyzed) alongside Cinderella. The Godmother orders the book holders destroyed (00:32:04, 00:32:44, 00:33:28, 00:34:48, 00:36:13, 00:37:04, 00:37:25, 00:38:03, 00:39:14).
- 00:39:37 Pib and Beaky: a firework hits three fairies; the bird fires it; Pib's sneak-attack dagger kills the Green Fairy. Aesop, hurt by the hand, summons a shark and takes another round off Snow White's spell. Mother Goose holds concentration (two rounds), heals Scheherazade (19), readies Telekinetic Shove. Elody leaps at the hand ("I don't like my story!") (00:44:44, 00:45:52, 00:46:38, 00:48:30, 00:49:35, 00:51:19).
- 00:53:14 Scheherazade defies the Author's hand and removes another round. The Blue Fairy dies at the start of Rosamund's turn (her earlier critical injury); Rosamund tries to turn the Wicked Fairy ("Happily Ever After isn't real"), shoots two fairies and hands her book to Gerard. Pinocchio's books flatten the hand against the ziggurat; he reaches the Turquoise-haired fairy (Persuasion 21) and she dives into the pages ("What's the point of magic if you can't rewrite destiny?"); the Red Fairy calls her Turquina (00:53:37, 00:55:47, 00:56:27, 00:57:56, 00:59:38, 01:01:14, 01:02:20, 01:02:36).
- 01:03:04 The Baba Yaga kills the Red Fairy; the Wicked Fairy shoots Aesop. Gerard, with Rosamund's book, sucks the Fairy Godmother and then the Wicked Fairy into it. Mira asks the Baba Yaga for a ride. The Stepmother rises from the pages ("Do I strike you as a poor piece of writing?"); the hand slips Pinocchio's grapple to go for her and fires ink at her (01:03:29, 01:05:48, 01:06:26, 01:06:34, 01:07:14, 01:07:35, 01:08:10, 01:09:21).
- 01:09:42 Pib loses Beaky to the hand's presence ("I die a winner!") and kills the Yellow Fairy. Brennan explains the stakes of Mother Goose's spell: each round held is another chance. Cinderella, released by Ylfa, drops to fight the Stepmother. Ylfa wins over the Orange Fairy, who leaves her hat and moonwalks into the pages; Ylfa's first successful Persuasion (01:11:13, 01:11:46, 01:13:01, 01:15:31, 01:19:46, 01:20:43, 01:21:13).
- 01:23:12 Scheherazade has no door out; a brainstorm leaves only the Gander. Rosamund hits the Stepmother with three arrows for 49; the Stepmother burns a Legendary Resistance; she then cones the Authors' hand with pages and the Baba Yaga leaps in and vanishes (01:23:35, 01:24:01, 01:26:08, 01:27:40, 01:28:28, 01:28:48).
- 01:29:12 Pinocchio, thrown by Flat William, shouts her name, "Minerva"; Geppetto is lifted out of the battle in golden light, and the Stepmother has disadvantage on saves and ability checks from then on. The Turquoise-haired fairy returns and takes a direct stand against the Authors, with three rays at the hand (01:30:01, 01:30:08, 01:31:24, 01:31:53).
- 01:32:18 Gerard hits the Stepmother (20); Mira drops again; the Stepmother's claw takes Gerard down (48); Tom Thumb and Ylfa block the stair; the hand crushes the Turquoise-haired fairy into the ink. Pib's critical dagger (39 total) makes the hand collapse into raw ink; the Authors recoil in fear (01:33:21, 01:34:01, 01:34:39, 01:36:32, 01:37:32, 01:38:20).
- 01:39:06 The Stepmother burns three legendary actions: everyone fails a Wisdom save and takes 22 psychic; Rosamund and Tom's cat go down. Mother Goose writes in his book and touches the ink; Cinderella fights the Stepmother; Ylfa becomes a dire wolf; Pinocchio banishes (the Stepmother burns a second Legendary Resistance); the Stepmother nearly throws Ylfa off the ledge and swallows Tom Thumb (01:39:55, 01:40:10, 01:42:10, 01:42:51, 01:43:19, 01:46:44, 01:47:18, 01:49:43).
- 01:49:59 Pib's dagger misses; another Wisdom blast (38 psychic, halved on a save): Gerard is dead and Mira is "gone"; Elody, Pib and Aesop go down. Mother Goose feeds Pib a Goodberry by Mage Hand and releases the spell with five rounds; the Gander appears too late; the corruption count is announced and 18 or higher is needed; rolls 17, 12, 12, 18, 19; the spell works (01:51:49, 01:52:20, 01:54:00, 01:54:24, 01:55:00, 01:55:44, 01:58:43, 01:59:14).
- 02:01:05 Pib's knife, with true ink, strikes the Baba Yaga's hand rising from the pages; Cinderella drives her spear into the Stepmother's heart; ink rains and each person ingests a piece of the true book. The Gander plummets. Brennan says the story is ending and asks for goodbyes (02:01:05, 02:02:09, 02:02:32).
- 02:04:31 Goodbyes: Pib steals back the names and memories from the Baba Yaga; Mother Goose and Scheherazade clasp hands; Ylfa carries Gerard; Rosamund and Ylfa as a little girl; Rosamund and Cinderella; Gerard gives Elody the Sword of Truth; Pinocchio's father is carried to the hut; Pinocchio shares whiskey and gum with the Stepmother; the fairies and princesses leave; Snow White weeps; a new feather sticks a quill piercing the Gander's heart and the voice of a Golden Goose asks what new story he would write (02:04:35, 02:07:09, 02:07:52, 02:09:40, 02:10:16, 02:11:44, 02:12:52, 02:14:19, 02:15:18, 02:16:29).
- 02:16:41 Epilogue in Hapley and neighbouring kingdoms: Rosamund (speed dating, spindle), Mother Goose (Hapley's counsellor, Jack and the Gander), Pinocchio (a real boy at 21), Pib (the Trickster Prince's court, Minerva), Gerard (a handsome prince with a frog's powers), Rosamund and Snow White's waking, Ylfa (rebel and the Baba Yaga's friend, "Nocchi"). Brennan ends: "And they all lived happily. And that's the end of our story." (02:17:25, 02:19:24, 02:23:28, 02:26:48, 02:30:20, 02:32:59, 02:34:43, 02:38:01).
