The Ending of All Things (Part 1)
What happens
- 00:00:53 Brennan opens: "the final encounter of Dimension 20: Neverafter here within the Canonade". Recap (recap): the heroes have "completed the trials of the Baba Yaga and retrieved the name of the Stepmother", found a path through the Neverafter under the Gander's wings to the castle in the Auroratory; in the Canonade they see the Daughters of the Crown in a ritual, the ink of the Inkwell surging as Snow White prepares to bend the power of The Authors and their true ink toward the open pages of Scheherazade's true book. The ink is the source of all magic in the party's worlds; Pinocchio can feel destiny written in it (00:00:53, 00:01:29).
- 00:03:58 Brennan sets out the systems: injury and death blows continue; capturing foes in a book is possible and automatic when they are defeated; trying it early gives them the same saves as when Pib first tried, with disadvantage at half hit points or fewer; Persuasion is possible even now, with different DCs per hero and per target, as an action, or as a bonus action with disadvantage; Insight can sound out one person at a time (00:03:58, 00:04:44, 00:05:03, 00:05:38).
- 00:06:00 The scene: Snow White raising her hand to control the ink, Scheherazade stoic beside her, Cinderella on the structure. Insights (Ylfa 21, Mother Goose 26): Scheherazade is not natural, Snow White holds concentration on something; Brennan reads that the princesses had no time to persuade Scheherazade "the old-fashioned way". The books have turned into a churning mass of pages; no Authors are seen. Cinderella: "You are late. Turn from this place. We wish you no harm." (00:06:30, 00:07:14, 00:07:41, 00:08:26, 00:09:04).
- 00:09:29 Round one. Pib sneaks 35 feet up the side (Stealth 26), throws knives at Rapunzel from exactly 60 feet and hits on a nat 20 for 34 damage: her throat is split and her hair whips wildly; she fails the Death Blow save (Brennan's die 13, with her +3 a 16 against the DC 17) and will take 34 again at the top of his next turn (00:10:04, 00:11:15, 00:13:38, 00:14:07). Mother Goose joins Pib behind a column, casts a third-level Bless on all five others, reads Cinderella with an Insight 16, kicks a book off the edge (it frays into pages), Bardic Inspiration to Ylfa, then yells for his book with a Deception nat 1 (00:15:47, 00:16:24, 00:17:15, 00:17:50, 00:18:24, 00:18:34).
- 00:18:39 Snow White orders Cinderella to take the book from Mother Goose; Cinderella lowers her visor and vanishes, and kills Rosamund's summoned bird from invisibility, 29 damage on a 20-hit-point bird. Elody steps forward with an aura around her; Gerard tells her they "broke up via sword" (00:18:50, 00:20:06, 00:21:05, 00:21:45).
- 00:21:58 Ylfa jumps onto the ziggurat next to the Beast, tells her she gave up something she cannot remember; Persuasion on the Beast (9 against DC 20) fails: "Then let us settle this like beasts." Scheherazade feeds Snow White's concentration (00:25:24, 00:27:39, 00:28:05, 00:29:02).
- 00:29:59 Snow White casts Circle of Death over a 60-foot radius; saves are rolled; Rosamund and Thumbelina take the full 40 ("No, she took the full 40."), others 20 or less; Pinocchio uses his reaction to halve the damage, Tom Thumb and the Baba Yaga make their saves; Cricket is killed and Thumbelina drops to zero. Tom Thumb stabilizes her with a Medicine nat 20 and runs for the ledge; Rosamund heals Thumbelina and shoots at Snow White but cannot break concentration (00:30:15, 00:32:26, 00:33:16, 00:34:39, 00:35:29).
- 00:38:03 Pinocchio pours out a drink for Cricket, Dimension Doors with Gerard to Mira, and wins her over (Insight 19, Persuasion 24 after Call of Destiny); Mira: "I don't want my story to end here." She steps beside him (00:38:12, 00:39:47, 00:40:52, 00:43:14).
- 00:43:42 The Baba Yaga flies into the fray and casts Cone of Cold; Snow White's Counterspell is countered by her own sixth-level Counterspell; Scheherazade's Counterspell (15) stops it (00:44:09, 00:45:05, 00:46:08).
- 00:47:09 Gerard goes to Elody and talks to her; she asks what he would write in his book; the sword already told him; she smiles. Rapunzel's turn: her hair grabs Gerard, Mira and Little Red and pulls them in; Gerard is stabbed for 17; Mira cuts free; the Beast tries to shove Ylfa into the pages but Ylfa resists (Athletics die 14, total 20 with her +6 against the Beast's 20, helped by Mother Goose's Cutting Words); Rapunzel takes 34 again (00:49:14, 00:51:42, 00:55:07, 00:56:19, 00:57:07, 00:59:17, 01:00:03, 01:01:11).
- 01:03:08 Mother Goose Dimension Doors with Pib, pulls Scheherazade into his arms with Telekinetic Shove, pleads with her, and learns undoing Snow White's work grows harder every round. Cinderella appears and drops Pib, then wounds Mother Goose; Elody attacks Rapunzel: "Stop hurting him! This isn't the plan!" (01:04:53, 01:06:00, 01:08:25, 01:09:11, 01:09:43).
- 01:09:52 Ylfa bites free of the hair, grapples the Beast and holds her over the edge; her bonus-action Persuasion (needs 16 on both dice) fails (5), the Beast's Dex save fails (7), and the Beast falls into the pages and dies (106 damage on 104 hit points). Scheherazade casts Sleep at Mother Goose, who counters it, and then blows radiant energy at him that gives disadvantage on ability checks, attack rolls and saving throws (01:13:23, 01:14:23, 01:15:19, 01:16:02, 01:17:06, 01:17:48).
- 01:18:39 Snow White's turn: a critical hit on Rosamund for 47; Rosamund fails her save and falls dead. Thumbelina offers her the choice; Rosamund says it is not her time; briars tear Thumbelina apart and Rosamund returns at 1 hit point as Sleeping Beauty, half briar (01:19:22, 01:21:25, 01:21:56, 01:24:46, 01:25:07, 01:25:24, 01:26:18).
- 01:26:56 Pinocchio smashes a firework onto Snow White and Scheherazade (32 and 16 damage); Snow White keeps concentration; the Baba Yaga dispels Scheherazade's Geas ("You must wake up!"); Gerard attacks Rapunzel, uses Action Surge and swallows her; Rapunzel is defeated. Mira rides Ylfa (01:29:08, 01:30:28, 01:31:14, 01:33:23, 01:36:48, 01:37:38, 01:39:14).
- 01:39:30 Mother Goose heals Pib and casts Vicious Mockery on Snow White, breaking her concentration; Snow White: "Fine, we'll start over." The ink begins to swirl; things beyond understanding turn their attention to the place. Cinderella knocks out Scheherazade and takes the book (01:41:25, 01:42:30, 01:42:55, 01:43:41, 01:45:02).
- 01:46:07 Elody grabs Tom Thumb ("She'll go five, 10.") and charges to the base of the ziggurat; Siobhan asks whether Elody could Persuade the princesses ("Against the princesses? Yeah, potentially."). Ylfa as a bear carries Mira up the ziggurat; Mira kicks Snow White and knocks her prone; Snow White's attacks go at Mira ("It's only one hit for plenty of damage") and a blast with spectral dwarves calls for Dexterity saves from the others; Rosamund's critical hit with a briar arrow kills Snow White outright ("Snow White is gone"). Pinocchio's plea to Cinderella fails (the first roll is "a nat 1" in a caption phrase but "It was 19" by Ally, unresolved; then 3 and 14). Baba Yaga bear-hugs Cinderella into the sky (01:48:49, 01:49:26, 01:51:26, 01:52:30, 01:55:33, 01:57:46, 02:00:56).
- 02:02:03 At the end of the Baba Yaga's turn fairies appear (a caption says six), led by the Fairy with Turquoise Hair ("What have you done? What have you done? Stop them!"); the ink turns, a shadow extends over the hall, a deep thrum rises from the pages. Brennan: "that's all for this episode" (02:02:10, 02:02:59, 02:03:05). Next-time preview from 02:03:44 is not lore of this episode.
