Origins
What happens
- 00:00:54 Brennan's recap (recap): the party stumbled into The Lines Between, a citadel of parchment hanging in the Auroratory, met Scheherazade, Sinbad, Aesop and the mule Alphonse, Pib killed Pinocchi-Crow, Mother Goose saw the ink and "The Authors" in the Canonade, and the party raced back to the room with their stories (00:01:29, 00:03:31, 00:05:31).
- 00:05:31 Back in the library the door has shut and changed; books fall, a figure outside rattles the doorknob, and the presence is described as far more potent than the avatar seen in the Golden Chair; Brennan calls for initiative if anyone wants to act (00:05:31).
- 00:08:42 Pib says fighting is not a good idea, Ylfa offers to hold the door; Pinocchio tries to Eldritch Blast the doorknob and learns the source of his magic no longer grants it; he decides to give his strings to any entity that will take them (00:08:42, 00:09:17, 00:10:49).
- 00:11:19 Pib's Investigation with advantage (natural 20) shows the shelf of all their books; his dagger (12) hits the shelf and the books tumble; Pinocchio throws his marionette handle into the light of his own book; Wisdom save 15 (00:11:32, 00:12:40, 00:13:29, 00:15:01).
- 00:15:24 Eldritch Blast with advantage (11 against AC 10) knocks the knob off, killing a trans-planar spell mid-cast; the party falls through the books of their own stories (00:15:33, 00:15:54).
- 00:16:50 On the 15, Brennan hands Pinocchio narrative control; he asks why his life has been so hard; his strings branch out to all copies of his story, and he lassoes his friends so they go with him (00:17:27, 00:18:19, 00:19:58).
- 00:20:51 The five others stand in the village square of Amanti and see the memory: children asked the names of their fathers, a lie, a death, and Pinocchio waking in his wooden body; Geppetto returns and scolds him; Pinocchio's Athletics (natural 1) fails to hold him; Geppetto leaves to find the Fairy with Turquoise Hair (00:20:54, 00:22:19, 00:23:29, 00:24:57).
- 00:25:23 Insight checks on Geppetto's face; Ylfa, Rosamund and Mother Goose see deep regret (00:25:27, 00:26:10).
- 00:26:57 A light behind a closed door; the Stepmother speaks to young Pinocchio for the first time, says she is his mother, offers magic and gifts, and takes his strings with a promise (00:27:00, 00:27:44, 00:30:18, 00:30:34).
- 00:30:37 The present Pinocchio, rotted and mossy from the battle in the Kingdom of Elegy, is seen walking up a hill toward the Fairy with Turquoise Hair's home; the party catches up with him and comforts him (00:30:37, 00:32:08).
- 00:35:35 Walking through Amanti, which turns to illustration, they reach the Blue Fairy's etched door; Pinocchio pounds on it and it opens onto a forest glade in the Neverafter (00:35:35, 00:36:43).
- 00:37:26 The Fairy with Turquoise Hair (Turquina on her card) is shocked that Pinocchio is wooden again; the party argues with her, Mother Goose casts Enhance Ability, and she asks who has Pinocchio's strings (00:37:47, 00:38:39, 00:40:09).
- 00:40:51 Insight checks: Brennan tells Pinocchio and Gerard she is not lying; her motives are ulterior but not sinister; Timothy tests her with a lie and she does not react; Ylfa's mention of the Wolf makes her astonished (00:41:03, 00:41:49, 00:42:25).
- 00:42:44 Turquina learns the party has been in more than one version of their stories; Ylfa describes the Stepmother; Turquina names The Authors and says the fairies have seen them too (00:43:20, 00:44:12, 00:44:21).
- 00:44:21 Turquina explains the Wicked Fairy's ritual, Cinderella's godmother, how fairies travel through versions of themselves, and that the fairies want the Neverafter back to "happily ever after" and the canon (00:44:21, 00:45:33, 00:48:52).
- 00:47:00 She says princesses, wolves and the Gander have contacted some of them; the Wolf has gone missing and is in grave peril; Pinocchio recalls her summoning a thousand birds to trim his nose back (00:47:00, 00:47:33, 00:48:13).
- 00:49:14 Rosamund asks what if they do not want the Authors' stories; Gerard: "I'm a goddamn frog again"; the Canonade is named; Turquina says the Wolf is vanishing from many stories and Ylfa says she ate him (00:49:14, 00:49:34, 00:49:57, 00:50:22).
- 00:50:34 Everyone tumbles out; Pinocchio pulls Turquina through with strings; they land in a dark cottage where a large shape lies in a bed (00:50:44, 00:51:03).
- 00:51:14 Ylfa plays Little Red Riding Hood visiting her grandmother (cinnamon toast rolls, lollipopcorn, the dumped broth); the grandmother's ears and teeth are large and the figure rises as a vast wolf (00:51:32, 00:53:27, 00:54:05).
- 00:55:15 The Wolf says he has eaten the grandmother and is lying down on the bed; days pass; he tells Ylfa to split his skull with the ax and eat his flesh or die; she finally does (00:55:21, 00:56:46, 00:57:05, 01:00:27).
- 01:01:43 Back in the empty cottage, Ylfa asks if she is the Stepmother; Turquina says no, the Wolf is death, and she believes he wished Ylfa to live (01:02:06, 01:02:27).
- 01:04:36 Talk of Aesop and the lion's nosebleeds; Turquina says the fairies want things back as they were; Rosamund and Pib push back (01:04:36, 01:05:18, 01:06:01, 01:06:13).
- 01:07:12 A flash of the Neverafter: fire, soot and ash on a giant brick wall; Ylfa says the Wolf is burning somewhere (01:07:12, 01:07:35).
- 01:08:12 Pib resolves to use the fairies' magic for their own purposes; Mother Goose (Insight 13; Zac says the other roll was a nine) sees the fairy eye his book; Pib pulls out the torn Cinderella book and the fairy's eyes widen (01:08:16, 01:08:39, 01:09:04, 01:11:31).
- 01:11:31 Gerard chooses to help Pib and throws The Frog Prince over his friends; he finds himself alone at a lily pond in a memory of his years as a frog (01:12:27, 01:13:24).
- 01:15:31 The frog Fred is eaten by a heron, a royal hunter kills the heron, a dog bites Gerard and he makes death saves (5, 11, 8, 18, 15) (01:16:49, 01:17:56, 01:19:31, 01:20:26).
- 01:21:10 Young Princess Elody drops a golden ball in the pond, meets the talking frog, and lays out a handkerchief to carry him to the castle, then says bye and tells him not to touch her; the memory fades (01:22:08, 01:23:59, 01:29:06, 01:30:09).
- 01:30:12 Gerard is on the pond bank holding the book, the fairy gone; the party talks about frogs, love and Elody; Rosamund says the princesses are headed to the Neverafter and she was told to look for a princess by the sea (01:30:12, 01:33:33, 01:33:54).
- 01:36:07 The party fetches the golden ball from the castle and puts it into Mother Goose's book beside the shard and the spindle; Gerard's wish; the ink of The Frog Prince leaves the page and moves into Gerard; the book sucks Mother Goose in and the party pulls him out (01:36:46, 01:38:30, 01:39:28, 01:39:53, 01:41:59).
- 01:41:59 The party falls through a storm over the Neverafter with the Lullaby Lands and Tuffeton, other realms, and the Gander; Zac and Siobhan roll high Insight; Mother Goose's book is a planeswalker tome and the Authors never meant the stories to touch (01:42:46, 01:43:03, 01:43:19, 01:43:35).
- 01:44:45 The Gander is in pain; Rosamund casts Speak with Animals on it; it speaks to her, then to Tim, saying he has one wish left; Zac's natural 20 shows cutback seams pushing it back toward the Neverafter (01:45:20, 01:45:39, 01:46:02, 01:48:39).
- 01:49:45 Pib looks for an exit in the Cinderella book; the party dives in; the Gander lunges and seams race toward the book; Ylfa casts a Gust (01:50:03, 01:50:28, 01:50:38).
- 01:50:38 In a mostly erased story, they see Cinderella's home and two young women with their faces pecked by birds; the woman (speaker label Stepmother) asks Cinderella, addressed with a prince, for help for her daughters and is refused (01:51:54, 01:53:18, 01:53:53, 01:54:16).
- 01:54:38 The Stepmother rides to a cottage on chicken legs and meets Baba Yaga, to whom she agrees to give one binding favor, and is shown that she is in a story and has no name; the Stepmother stabs herself in the chest for her name and goes beyond the world (01:55:24, 01:56:40, 01:59:29, 02:01:17).
- 02:02:03 The Stepmother moves through The Lines Between, grows vast, and devours the evil queen from Snow White's book; the party races toward her present (02:02:33, 02:03:12, 02:03:16).
- 02:03:42 Out of options, Rosamund opens the package Cinderella gave her, finds a poison apple and throws it at the Stepmother; she slashes pages and ejects the party back into the Neverafter (02:05:13, 02:05:21, 02:05:25).
- 02:07:51 They land in the City of Chimneys, with smokestacks, brick, laborers hauling weapons and a draft poster with the seal of the Baron of Bricks; Ylfa becomes more wolf-like; Siobhan and Ally disguise her; History checks follow (02:08:19, 02:09:17, 02:09:26, 02:10:31).

- 02:18:42 Ylfa asks a man where the Wolf is and he calls them enemies of the state; Gerard acts, Brennan says "Dead. Don't even roll." and Gerard apologises; they decide the Wolf is likely in the brick fortress (02:18:50, 02:19:01, 02:19:08, 02:19:28).
