Down Came the Rain
What happens
- 00:00:54 Brennan welcomes the audience; asked about the little blood-red gems on the table, he says he gave them "in specific amounts to specific people" (00:01:06, 00:01:14).
- 00:01:25 Recap (recap): the afterlife adventures, the entities and forces met, Red's relationship to the Big Bad Wolf, Cinderella's contact with Rosamund, the turquoise-haired fairy's contact with Prince Gerard and the Golden Goose herself giving wing to— (Brennan's sentence breaks off, 00:01:25); Pib's link to a council of trickster animals; Pinocchio's confrontation with "MaMa" (00:01:25, 00:03:12). Emily rolls an Insight check on whether the Big Bad Wolf is a fairy and gets 15 (00:02:33); Brennan says the wolf had no wings, wishes or wand and it is hard to tell (00:02:35).
- 00:03:37 The party returns to a place partway along the road towards Shoeburg, between the Kingdoms of Greenleigh and Reverie and partway from the fallen Kingdom of Marienne; thunder and rain (00:03:37).
- 00:04:27 The Cock & Toad, a roadside tavern with a rooster and a toad on its sign: mercenaries and warriors, a scarred bartender, a peddler and a giant dish with a face at the bar (00:04:27, 00:05:28).
- 00:06:47 Initiative is rolled to set the order of arrival; Rosamund arrives first (00:07:12).
- 00:07:18 Rosamund arrives with a hooded bodyguard of woodland creatures topped by an owl; Ylfa arrives, orders a "Pimmsless Pimm's cup", gets a whole jar of Gibson onions from the bartender and meets Rosamund again; the owl swallows the jar (00:07:46, 00:09:21, 00:10:08, 00:12:10, 00:13:30).
- 00:13:44 Pib sneaks in (stealth 23), changed: older, darker blue boots, a new cape, two small daggers, a bitten ear; Ylfa blows on the fire and the tavern's papers blow about (00:14:01, 00:15:05, 00:16:08).
- 00:16:37 Gerard arrives, now fully a big frog with the glass shard in him; Ylfa pulls the shard out (Athletics natural 20) and he takes eight damage (00:16:43, 00:17:39, 00:17:58).
- 00:18:58 Mother Goose arrives with a basket of apples and the book; Pinocchio arrives, mossy and rotted, leaning on his walking stick, with a full-sized crow on his shoulder (00:19:07, 00:20:31, 00:20:53).
- 00:23:16 The six compare what happened to them between lives; Ylfa's wolf is gone, Rosamund tells of three princesses, Pinocchio of his mother and his nose, Gerard of the turquoise-haired fairy; Pinocchio and Rosamund discuss fairies (00:23:30, 00:23:47, 00:24:12, 00:26:46, 00:30:15).
- 00:31:46 Gerard is asked whether the fairy gave him anything; his Deception 13 is read as a lie, and Rosamund's creatures search him in vain; he then admits the fairy told him to take the shard to a moonlit glade (00:32:21, 00:32:45, 00:33:13).
- 00:33:44 The group argues whether to go to Timothy's house or a barn; Pinocchio presses that Rosamund must be kept hidden; Rosamund and Timothy speak of Pinocchio's mom who "ate two people", and Brennan pauses and rules that only Pinocchio knows (00:34:00, 00:35:00).
- 00:37:04 The shard is discussed as something to stab, wipe or ink the book with; Rosamund says "true love is a myth" and a drunk Dish at the bar answers "Amen" (00:37:04, 00:38:07, 00:38:15).
- 00:38:17 The group talks to the Dish; Timothy shouts "Touch the book, touch the book!" (00:41:14), and the Dish tells his story and vanishes into golden motes with the line "And the Dish ran away with the Spoon" (00:41:03, 00:44:06).
- 00:45:35 Ylfa asks the Dish's tab (over 30 gold); Gerard lies that the Dish went to a better bar to drink free and the bartender rushes out after him (00:45:39, 00:46:02, 00:46:21).
- 00:47:21 Pib follows his ring's strand outside and helps a tiny spider in an acorn boat; the spider tells of a spider queen gathering forces in the Lullaby Lands, of a hill where her web used to be and of a winged shape that honked like thunder (00:47:21, 00:53:01).
- 00:55:19 Pib returns; the party goes to a barn; bear scat, a cow that leaps into the sky; the shard goes into the book and the whole story of Cinderella writes itself (00:56:03, 00:57:30, 00:59:24, 01:00:15).
- 01:02:05 A hand in the book writes back from a cave: Scheherazade, trapped with Sinbad, waiting for a roc, speaks with Mother Goose through the pages and sends an image of an eight-legged spider glyph (01:02:42, 01:05:24, 01:11:58).
- 01:17:05 After the book closes: Pib's ring, Gerard's golden sphere, a plan to find the spider, a team huddle ("Together") (01:17:36, 01:20:45).
- 01:21:33 Gerard patches his wound on a short rest, with a medicine crit by Mother Goose; Ylfa tells the others she can carry them on webs (01:21:40, 01:22:36).
- 01:24:02 The cow lands from the sky; Speak with Animals; Mother Goose asks the cow to touch the book, rolls Performance 6, and the cow vanishes with a new line "And the cow jumped over the moon" (01:24:14, 01:25:42).
- 01:26:12 The party marches through the rain; Longstrider, Goodberry, a ram from the book for Pinocchio, the crow scouts and sees Tuffeton, a hill with a mine and cobwebs (01:28:22, 01:34:27, 01:36:28).
- 01:39:35 Constitution saves in the rain; Pib fails and shivers; Mother Goose wraps him in a scarf, goes for Cure Wounds and, with a first-level slot allowed to cast a second-level spell, casts Lesser Restoration; Brennan rules that the cast prevented Pib from getting another blood-red token (01:39:56, 01:42:19, 01:42:59).
- 01:44:15 They enter the mine in teams, leaving apples and ball bearings behind; Ylfa feels a boar through Beast Bond; they reach an abyss of giant web (01:47:10, 01:48:41, 01:52:19, 01:53:50).
- 01:56:44 Mother Goose writes to Scheherazade again and hears of a palace with tapestries showing a golden sphere and a princess with a mace; the Gander speaks from the shadows (01:57:43, 01:58:17).
- 01:59:04 They plan the crossing; the crow becomes a spider; a group stealth check succeeds (Crow natural 20) and they cross more than an hour of web (02:02:57, 02:03:36, 02:04:26).
- 02:06:25 They stop within 40 feet of a group of spiders in the center of the web and those with darkvision have the drop on them ("those of you with darkvision, you have the drop on them"); Brennan calls initiative (02:06:25, 02:06:48).
- 02:06:53 Brennan closes the show and a next-time preview for Episode 6, "The Curdled Web", follows (see Table talk) (02:06:53).
