Alphonse the Mule

Pib hides behind a mule covered in the entrails of dead cows and other animals, and Brennan says it is alive and feigning death NA E3·00:34:06. The mule asks "What the fuck are you doing here?" NA E3·00:33:50 Brennan says it is the mule that was given to the miller's second son, and the mule calls itself "Ricard's mule" NA E3·00:34:06 NA E3·00:34:26. Pib then talks to it and it gives its name, Alphonse NA E3·00:57:04.

In the third episode Pib tells Alphonse, who says he has lain there for days, to be ready to run and carry them out NA E3·00:57:15 NA E3·00:57:21. Not having heard from Pib in a minute, Alphonse bolts past the party and the Fairy Godmother into the woods, and Brennan says this distracts her enough to give Mother Goose advantage NA E3·01:46:12. Afterward Pib says he should have "jumped on Alphonse's back" NA E5·01:20:18.

In The Lines Between Pib sees that one of the three animals that came with Aesop, a lion, a mouse and a mule, is Alphonse, who avoids his eye NA E8·00:16:32. Pib asks where he went when they needed him and says he ran while everyone else died NA E8·00:17:12 NA E8·00:17:24. Alphonse says he ran when the battle was going south, fell through something like parchment into a place with sunshine and good grass, met Aesop there, and that he has "a good thing going now" NA E8·00:17:38 NA E8·00:28:42 NA E8·00:29:31. He tells Pib the realms are blending together, that Aesop told them the Lands of Lullaby did not use to be part of the Neverafter, and that the Lands of Lullaby got swallowed up NA E8·00:27:50 NA E8·00:28:06.

Later Pib chases a mule wearing a false mustache, which comes off; Alphonse says Aesop sent him there after the party vanished from The Lines Between, and that a mule in a post-apocalypse can just hang out NA E14·00:47:50 NA E14·00:48:10 NA E14·00:48:29 NA E14·00:48:40. He asks Pib not to tell Aesop he is there NA E14·00:49:53.

In the sixteenth episode Pib sees Alphonse among the tiny army at the beanstalk, and Brennan says it does not seem from his vibe that he chose this NA E16·00:14:19 NA E16·00:14:25. Tiny soldiers ride him and he charges the party, crying "They make me!" NA E16·00:47:22 NA E16·01:14:23. When Pib intimidates him with a 21 he agrees to run and, on Gerard's advice, learns to roll to shake off his rider NA E16·01:21:13 NA E16·01:21:32. The rider holds on, and Alphonse complains "You lied to me, Puss in Boots!" NA E16·01:30:48 He is attacked by the tiny cavalry and accuses Pib of being "a trickster and a liar" NA E16·01:52:40 NA E16·01:52:43.

Pinocchio hands a lit rocket to Cricket, whose firework hits Alphonse, and Brennan says a curse breaks, his hooves turn into hands and he lands as a handsome prince with two hit points NA E16·01:58:04 NA E16·01:58:21 NA E16·01:58:44. He says "You broke my curse. A cricket shot a rocket at me." and sprints off NA E16·01:59:09 NA E16·01:59:15. He then tells Pib "I'll always remember you, Puss in Boots." NA E16·02:00:51 The Golden Goose, who had flown out after him, comes back with a basket NA E16·02:01:09 and says "Courtesy of His Highness, who knew where these were being kept and imprisoned." NA E16·02:01:29 Tomas and his two brothers step out of it carrying Henry Hubbard NA E16·02:01:37. In the seventeenth episode Henry says he met a mule in a kingdom called Marienne who told him where to find giants, and Marco asks whether "our dad's mule" was a prince the whole time NA E17·00:15:03 NA E17·00:35:35.
