A Court of Fey & Flowers, episode 1: A Bloom to Remember
The Bloom, a surge of magic in the fey realms, is hosted this year by the Sea Foam Court, and Andhera, heir of the Unseelie Court, learns from his Advisor that his sister Suntar is going and that the Queen of Air and Darkness will not come in person. Gwyndolin Thistle-hop, whose name was edited onto the Court of Wonder's invitation to the fury of her sister the Blue Fairy, answers a garbled plea from Mika, while the Goblin King sends Captain K.P. Hob to guard the nobles Boil and Blemish, and Hob broods over the marriage of Viscountess Grabalba and Prince Apollo, cancelled before it was announced. Delloso de la Rue, the Court of Wonder's emissary of joy, meets the other three on the northern lawns, where talk turns to the Battle of Briar Falls and the rumor that Hob spared the unhorsed Andhera. Lady Chirp Featherfowl and Lord Squak Airavis, the Lords of the Wing, arrive on ostrich chariots pulled by doves and announce that they now seek love matches, as their Grandfather demanded on the journey on pain of his displeasure. Rue offers as much gold as they can give to anyone who believes the cousins will behave, promises the cousins an undisclosed reward for good behavior and suitable matches, and, asked who wins if they fail, answers, "The entire fairy court." 01:44:36 The cousins sign the contract, it pulses with magic, and the Bloom begins, while Gwyndolin senses that the Court of Wonder holds a controlling majority of the realm's magic. 00:05:24–01:46:50
A Court of Fey & Flowers, episode 2: The Great Hart Hunt
At the night's party the archfey trade letters: Squak sends Rue a demand about the wager by ostrich and a hallway-clogging flock of birds, Hob eats Gwyndolin's reply unread and walks arm in arm with her, and Andhera sends the cousins two identical letters. Rue takes Gwyndolin aside into a dark corner to ask that they keep up the appearance of knowing each other, then tells the cousins the terms: "by the end of the Bloom, both of you must have worthy suitors" 01:10:09, with genuine love, no glamors or magic and no chaos, under a contract already signed. Next morning the guide Theodore becomes a great white hart and some forty archfey give chase, while Squak's illusory hart draws half of them away, Hob and Rue call on Wuvvy, who lures the hart as a white hind for a favor later, and Gwyndolin and Andhera raise a stick shrine with an offering of apples. Hob invites Rue into his hiding place in a tree, and Rue admits wanting a moment of connection that seems impossible and sends him back to the hunt. When Theodore turns on the hunters in a half-man form, Chirp cuts the antler free and shares the win with Andhera, and Theodore carries Squak off. Left alone at the taste of lemon, Gwyndolin is transformed into a moth-winged figure, BINX, who answers Mika. 00:03:00–02:24:34
A Court of Fey & Flowers, episode 3: Duel on the Southern Lawn
Standing at court shifts, with Andhera, Gwyndolin and Hob falling, and rumors spread that Hob is courting Gwyndolin, that the Lords of the Wing cannot fight, and that Chirp's win at the hunt is suspect because Theodore left with her cousin. Gwyndolin, transformed into her more comfortable self, writes as BINX to Gwyn, hoping she is adjusting to the mortal realm, and later, in the same form, gives Mika, a dwarven mother, the spell Unseen Servant. Andhera hand-delivers pickup lines and rude drawings to the nest, and Rue apologizes to Gwyndolin, admits to Wuvvy their feelings for Hob and commands her to burn a letter to him, but Wuvvy, never told to keep it secret, heads for the Goblin Pagoda. In a feral third form Wuvvy tells Hob, "You have hurt a person I care about" 01:23:22, and demands satisfaction on the Southern Lawn, and Hob, who warns Blemish and Boil that Gwyndolin is not who she seems, names the tiny salt goblin Gorebladder his second while Theodore stands for Wuvvy. After a first exchange in which Wuvvy's oddly stinging blade wounds Hob, Andhera steps in as her replacement, slips Hob's first grab but is lifted by the second, and offers his hand in friendship, which Hob accepts. Wuvvy walks off without saying what satisfaction she sought, and Hob says only that if Viscountess Grabalba rejects a proposal of marriage, people should handle it with more grace. 00:02:03–02:30:25
A Court of Fey & Flowers, episode 4: Seaside Teatime
The Lords of the Wing reach the height of their standing while Gwyndolin's standing slips so that people forget her in a room, and teapots invite everyone to a formal tea on the beach. Hob tells Lady Boil he saw Gwyndolin in the woods speaking in a different voice, and Boil, who has heard she is an assassin, tells him to get answers, after which he admits he insinuated that the duel came from Rue's dishonor over a marriage proposal rejected by Viscountess Grabalba, to put the Court of Wonder at a disadvantage. On the sparring field Andhera admits he was scared when Hob once knocked him from his steed, and later offers to heal Hob's poisoning and promises help whenever he needs it. Gwyndolin is welcomed at brunch by the Sea Foam Court and given the human Wannessa for the day, and Rue, after a talk with Wuvvy, arrives at the tea as their true self, a seven-foot owlbear in a pink taffeta gown. At tea the Lords of the Wing confront Hob over his remarks about their military and forgive him when he apologizes, a flicker of gold crackles as Wannessa wipes a tear from Gwyndolin, and Squak meets a baroness who calls him her betrothed. After a round of unlabelled vials Hob pushes into Gwyndolin's thoughts, and when she answers in a different voice and refuses him her real name, he asks, "So you admit it is not Gwyndolin?" 01:43:32, before Squak calls everyone to the hedge maze that has sprung up. 00:01:30–01:44:55
A Court of Fey & Flowers, episode 5: Through The Hedge Maze
The Wave Master announces that the prize at the center of the hedge maze is the Crystal Heart, and the archfey go in, each coming out alone, after Chirp has identified the twelve vials on the table and Hob has slung a tablecloth of them over his shoulder. Following the scent of Rue's peony, BINX reveals herself to Rue as the last of the Court of Craft, says the Court of Wonder stole her court's magic and stomps on a cursed key, and when asked who Gwyndolin Thistle-hop is, she says only that Gwyndolin is a friend, though Rue knows Gwyndolin to be a real person. Squak is blown to Prince Apollo and blasts through the hedge with him, Andhera lends Suntar his hasted Nightmare, Mucky, and sends it bolting the other way, and Hob chooses duty, following goblins rather than the scent of peonies, and carries off Viscountess Grabalba. When the hedge drops with the Heart a hundred feet away, Hob throws Grabalba toward it, Apollo dispels, Squak shouts that Apollo must not lose to his former fiancée, casts Hypnotic Pattern and counters BINX's Fog Cloud, and Chirp, outside, starts a rumor that Apollo was rankled. Andhera, who has recognised BINX by her eyes, drops Darkness over the Heart, finds it and slips it into her hands, and as she names herself the last of the Court of Craft before the crowd, the Wave Master bows: "All hail the Weaver of Fate, BINX Choppley." 01:57:36 00:02:35–01:57:36
A Court of Fey & Flowers, episode 6: Of One Mind
Rumors spread that Squak is courting Apollo and that Apollo called off his engagement because Rue loved Grabalba. BINX leaves Andhera a black apple, and on her way to the tailor's she receives a Sending signed Gwyndolin, who misses attending the Bloom with her sister, and reports that the mirror pool's portal is sealed, and BINX writes back that she has won the Crystal Heart for the Court of Craft. Squak tells Chirp he is engaged to Baroness Alven, and Chirp confesses that she is married, with a daughter on the Material Plane who manifests Grandfather's magic, and that she gave up her flight to keep it secret, then buys the silence of their butler Gobble, who overheard, before naming her partner, Esmé. Hob, who has learned from the Court of Wonder's trash that it is scrambling to find Apollo a match, presses the cousins over the engagement rumor, and Andhera casts Zone of Truth on Chirp and learns she is in love, but not with him. At an abandoned tailor's BINX waits with Rue in Gwyndolin's shape, and when Hob says he does not believe she is of the Court of Wonder, she drops it and he sputters, "BINX is Gwyn, and Gwyn is BINX!" 01:56:49, while Andhera says he already knew. BINX says the Court of Wonder has swallowed her court and blames Apollo above all, Hob sketches the courts while BINX links them with red string, and Hob declares their common cause, as a messenger in gold armor carries Apollo's invitation to the Lords of the Wing. 00:03:39–02:06:42
A Court of Fey & Flowers, episode 7: The Masquerade Ball
Rue polymorphs BINX into a golden frog brooch, Hob confesses that he began the rumor that Rue had proposed to Grabalba, and Rue tells him he was used. At the Sea Foam Court Baroness Alven names the Court of Wonder as the likely culprit if the Court of Craft's magic is gone, the Wave Master says her court fears its next ambitions, and Wannessa tells Rue, "Tell Gwyndolin I said hi." 00:26:23 Chirp tells Squak about her partner Esmé and their four-year-old daughter Phillipa, called Peep, and the cousins, resolved to bet against themselves in the wager, go to Prince Apollo's salon, where Apollo, after Chirp slips truth serum into his drink, admits that the Court of Wonder and the Unseelie Court mean to stopper and stockpile the magic flowing through the portals and offers to cut them in. Andhera tells BINX of the elemental shard in his neck, placed there, he says, to humiliate him, pledges his oath to her cause and is knighted with a cardboard tube. At the masquerade BINX leads a cha cha slide, Rue, told that Chirp's love is reciprocated and won without magic, congratulates her on winning her wager, and the cousins tell Grandfather they have negotiated two matches and send him, masked and dosed with a love potion, after members of the Sea Foam Court. Hob and Rue exchange dance cards, BINX and Andhera share a black apple, and when they speak to the cousins of the Material Plane, Chirp, who has mentioned it only to Gwyndolin, addresses BINX as Lady Gwyndolin. 00:03:01–02:24:29
A Court of Fey & Flowers, episode 8: The Rule of Sneakery
Rumors say the end of the Blooms is the work of a court greedy for magic, and BINX tells Chirp that she works with Gwyndolin, a real person who is not dead, and that portals are closing, while Chirp says she suspects the Unseelie Court and is stringing Suntar along to learn how. Blemish and Boil write that the Goblin Court will join the Seelie through Hob's union with Lady Sylmenar and name him Major, and Rue's love letter to Hob, entrusted to Wuvvy, is never delivered. Before the Chorus, who offer Rue a mask and a place, Rue says they will give up the post of master of ceremony whatever happens and reveals that the wager's prize for the cousins was that post at the next Bloom. Suntar tells the cousins that she and Apollo have been stockpiling talismans to close the tears in the veil and invites them to her box at a play at week's end, and when Blemish and Boil demand Apollo's head, BINX proposes to Hob framing Suntar for the murder. Andhera summons the Queen of Air and Darkness in a sea cave and is punished for demanding to be included, while a suspicious Grandfather says he will stay until the matches are confirmed and turns the cousins out of the nest. Rue lets slip the meetings at the tailor's and Andhera blurts out the plan to overthrow the courts, and as Major Hob sets out for the Seelie Court, Apollo steps into his path and begins to draw a sword. 00:02:18–02:17:53
A Court of Fey & Flowers, episode 9: Theater of War
Apollo corners Major Hob alone in the woods, Hob sees that he means to kill him, and, struck by golden arrows, Hob runs into the others. Andhera dispels and heals what he can, the group learns the Lords of the Wing have been turned out of their nest, and BINX says she believes the Court of Wonder and the Seelie Court are consolidating power by closing the portals. Squak, thinking Hob knows, confesses that he is Airry Pearry, author of "The Green Hunter," and pulls out the arrows with a jam spoon, which bear Apollo's signature, and when Andhera offers them all places in the Unseelie Court, BINX offers the Court of Craft in turn. On the way to the theater Rue and Hob quarrel over heart and duty and part, and in the amphitheater the cousins sit with Apollo and Suntar, Hob escorts Lady Sylmenar, and BINX tells Rue that Hob has deep feelings for them. During the play a cut-off Sea Foam message about sabotage of the engagement reaches Hob, he names Rue and a Sea Foam member nods, and on the cliffside he accuses Rue, who answers, "Yes, I ended the marriage. It had to be done." 01:33:10, then declares their love, while Hob glimpses Wuvvy watching from behind a pillar. At the shoreline Andhera accepts a place in BINX's court without leaving his own, which leaves the magic in him unstable, and BINX asks to remove his shard, but a blood-red bloom poisons her and vines shoot for her. 00:02:18–01:42:30
A Court of Fey & Flowers, episode 10: You Will Never Know a Lonely Day Again
As vines try to bind BINX, Andhera pushes the magic in him into the ground, a storm rolls in, and Apollo leads Squak to a ruined arch, the last gate to the material plane, saying that once it is shut the magic will stay with them. While the archfey pour keepsakes and titles into holding the gate open against the vines, Squak stalls Apollo with seduction and Hob kills him, and Suntar Dominates Hob and orders him to kill them all. BINX removes Andhera's shard and burns the Crystal Heart, at Rue's plea Wuvvy tackles Suntar and frees Hob, and Chirp's strike destroys the vines and saves the portal, showing her an afterimage of her daughter Peep. Andhera duels Suntar, who tells him she will see him again and tries to escape by Dimension Door, but Chirp counters it and Hob kicks her through the portal, and after Squak persuades the actor Jeremy Renner to make a gritty film, Renner too falls back through it. Advisor becomes the Unseelie Court's librarian, Rue, having left the Court of Wonder, parts from Wuvvy as a friend and accepts Hob's hand, and Hob renounces the Goblin Court: "you will never know a lonely day again as long as I draw breath." 01:04:51 Grandfather's last letter calls Chirp stronger than she has let on, BINX says her court is no court but a home, and she and Andhera kiss and walk through the portal, as a brown string ties itself around each archfey's pinky, a tether to the Court of Craft. 00:01:50–01:12:33
