Theater of War
What happens
- 00:00:05 Aabria's greeting names the six archfey. Housekeeping: both Lords of the Wing "dinged their second positive reputation tag" 00:00:57. Recap (recap): the Lords of the Wing kicked out of the nest by their grandfather, Wuvvy failing to deliver Rue's love note to Major Hob, Hob told of an arranged engagement to a lady of the Seelie Court, Andhera facing down his mother, BINX bonding with Chirp and plotting with Hob, and Apollo ambushing Hob alone in the woods — 00:01:22–00:02:18.
- 00:02:18 Aabria opens with a prologue in iambic pentameter about duty and love "ready to be waged" before "one final war" — 00:02:18; it ends "So step we all into this final game As hunt and Hunter take their careful aim." — 00:02:18.
- 00:03:19 "A fight without honor": Major Hob, on his way to the Seelie encampment to see Lady Sylmenar, is cornered by Prince Apollo with no one around; Aabria says Hob sees Apollo's intent to murder him. Hob tries to leave, fails a Dexterity save (5) and takes 11 piercing damage from a golden arrow, wins a Wisdom save (18) against Apollo's Command "Fight!", dashes toward the most populated area, takes a second arrow (10 piercing) at AC 17, hides (Stealth 12), saves against exploding arrows (19) and takes 7 fire damage; Brennan says he stands at 66 of 94 hit points — 00:03:26–00:15:35.
- 00:15:47 Hob runs out of the woods into the whole group (Lords of the Wing with their luggage, Andhera, BINX, Rue). Squak and Chirp roll Perception; Hob carries Chirp's suitcase of jam and silverware, the arrows work deeper; Andhera sees the arrows turning from gold to wood, casts Dispel Magic secretly (Hob fails to notice) and Cure Wounds; Hob insists the arrows stay in as proof — 00:15:47–00:24:20.
- 00:24:20 Walking to Andhera's, the group learns the Lords of the Wing were kicked out of their nest; Squak asks Hob about being shot; Hob tells the story; at Andhera's they are "safe and alone and secure". BINX says the Court of Wonder and the Seelie Court are closing portals; Andhera says his sister Suntar acts outside the Unseelie Court's jurisdiction; BINX speaks of Gwyndolin, Scratch and Mika in the mortal realm — 00:24:20–00:33:12.
- 00:33:12 The arrows creep inward, out of sight; Hob's Constitution save and Chirp's Arcana check; Squak removes them with a jam spoon (Chirp helps via Arcane Eye, BINX gives Lucky): natural 20; Squak adds the reputation tag "Icon"; the arrows go inert and bear Apollo's signature; Squak reveals himself as Airry Pearry; Andhera uses Lay on Hands — 00:33:12–00:42:17.
- 00:42:20 Hob raises charges against Apollo; Rue says the Court of Wonder asked them to take a seat in the Chorus. A knock: Advisor brings an invitation to the theater, "the last big event of the Bloom", that evening. Andhera offers a place in his court to all; BINX declines for herself but offers places in the Court of Craft; Hob cannot invite anyone to the Goblin Court; Chirp says the aim is to keep the portals open — 00:42:20–00:51:11.
- 00:51:13 Preparations: Chirp casts Mage Armor and Rary's Telepathic Bond (Chirp tries a bluebird in the ear of Hob's salt goblin Lieutenant Gorebladder, promoted to captain; whether it stays is not said). Andhera gives the Lords of the Wing each a Wand of Wonder made by the Court of Tricksters; Squak tests it on Andhera (d100 91, a flash of light), blinding Chirp for a minute — 00:51:13–00:57:27.
- 00:57:32 Hob and Rue talk on the way: Rue says they are an orphan in the fairy world and once wanted to dismantle all courts; Hob defends duty; Rue walks away; Hob, Chirp and Andhera react as if Hob were wounded again (Lay on Hands "bouncing back"). Chirp takes the tag "fearsome" and conjures a long-legged raven steed — 00:57:32–01:03:00.
- 01:03:05 The theater: an ancient Greek amphitheater "between places", curtains turn hunter green and the stars spell "The Green Hunter". Lou is handed a parcel with "a real copy" of the book; the sender is not said. Telepathic chatter; the Lords of the Wing sit with Apollo and Suntar; Hob escorts Lady Sylmenar (Insight 4 on her; Rue's Insight 10 against Hob's Deception 12; Charisma nat 20); Rue burns a token, at Aabria's offer, to overhear them — 01:03:05–01:12:53.
- 01:13:09 Rue withdraws "where the beat doesn't reach" and meets BINX at the water; BINX tells them Hob has deep feelings for them, calling herself the new Weaver of Fate; Rue says Hob never answered their letter — 01:13:09–01:17:32.
- 01:17:35 Red datura blooms carry messages through the audience. The play begins with Jeremy Renner on a sewage-flooded Boston stage. Squak reveals himself to Apollo, who leaves on a message; Hob's bloom brings a cut-off Sea Foam message ("They have always enjoyed the trust of the Chorus"); Hob fumbles a Deception (natural 1), leaves Lady Sylmenar, and a Sea Foam member Sends "That could only be one person"; Hob names Rue and the member nods — 01:17:35–01:23:46.
- 01:24:04 Hob calls BINX and Andhera over the bluebirds; Chirp, offended, is approached by a small Trickster Court bookmaker in a bloom and bets 5,000 eggs against herself in the wager at 11 to 1; her Persuasion (natural 20) pitching Gorebladder wins a little favor — 01:24:04–01:29:11.
- 01:29:31 Hob confronts Rue by the water: Rue admits "I ended the marriage", declares their love for Hob and explains why they once pulled away; a Perception check reveals Wuvvy watching from behind a pillar — 01:29:48–01:35:49.
- 01:36:20 Andhera and BINX by the shoreline: Andhera accepts a place in BINX's court without leaving his own (Charisma save 17, strain in his magic); BINX asks to remove his shard; a blood-red bloom poisons BINX (Constitution save 4, 19 poison damage) and vines shoot for her; the episode stops there — 01:36:20–01:42:43.
