We're the Heroes
What happens
- 00:00:32 Aabria opens the finale; the four players introduce themselves, Brennan in a "corny voice" — 00:00:32–00:01:25
- 00:01:26 In the Chimeron common room Nurse Stitchnit asks Evan to talk about his appointment; Evan asks to move the date up because of his scary episode; Brains DC 7 (Brennan halves it and succeeds); Stitchnit reluctantly says he just wanted Evan to go to Bibble's Bog on a free day; Evan will explain things to his friends first; Stitchnit waves at his daughter Maddy, who runs off — 00:01:45–00:04:33
- 00:04:54 Evan and the friends go for a stroll; Evan explains the procedure that would make him safe and a Muggle; Teddy says he is "burying the lede"; Dream explains the memory wipe in the contract; Sam takes a few seconds to understand — 00:05:34–00:10:21
- 00:10:21 Evan thinks he would be sent back to Millersburg while they stay; Jammer, Sam and Dream argue he must stay; Dream Charm DC 10 (10); rain starts behind Dream's window — 00:10:21–00:12:42
- 00:13:10 Dream's speech that "our house, is for all of the rest"; Evan says (after Dream's speech) "If that snake had hurt you, that would've been the end for me, you know?"; Sam Fight DC 10 (6): she sees a tether snap too late; Evan shouts that he has nothing to offer and shows his wand; Dream answers with "we're fucking Americans" — 00:13:10–00:16:29
- 00:17:01 A pink paper airplane from Stitchnit arrives ("Whenever you're ready."); Evan voices his fears, Sam answers with the last McRib; Headmistress Philtrum arrives to escort Evan to the nurse, and Evan's Brains DC 8 (8) shows she "looks a little too pleased to see you and escort you" (00:20:12) — scene 00:17:01–00:20:30
- 00:20:54 Evan stalls to fetch his socks; Dream makes Teddy's choir perform for Philtrum; Evan learns Tallulah cast a destructive spell at him and Dream jumped in the way; he borrows Jammer's phone, opens Google Street View of the nearest Planet Fitness to Jammer's home in Chicago, calls his shadow (Grit DC 13, a 4) and orders it to fetch weights; the lights go out and the shadow is gone — 00:20:54–00:28:21
- 00:29:07 Evan packs socks while the mice pass them back through a hole; Sam Charm DC 12 (7): she misses "something huge"; kettlebells are heard dropping; Jammer finds a full gym and cries quietly; Evan tells Philtrum he changed his mind, writes Stitchnit a note, and Philtrum burns it — 00:29:07–00:33:24
- 00:33:38 Philtrum begins "Muggle" and corrects herself to "NAMP" in front of them; Evan accuses Tallulah of casting a lethal spell; Sam claims she recorded the match on Twitch; Philtrum takes Sam alone to review the footage and recalls Teddy to Dream — 00:33:38–00:36:45
- 00:36:55 The friends talk, then find Dr. Boodle admiring the weights; he agrees to come to the nurse; Dream sends the mice and other creatures after Sam (Flight DC 7, 17) and a spider weaves "Trust us." for Sam (Sam Grit DC 6, 15) — 00:36:55–00:40:57
- 00:40:58 Philtrum's black office; Sam's face-unlock gag; the phone shows a mukbang video; Sam Grit DC 12 (5): the phone crumbles; Philtrum says a complaint puts the whole Hercinil team, Fergus included, on probation; Sam files a formal complaint — 00:40:58–00:47:20
- 00:47:28 At the infirmary Evan tells Stitchnit he will not go through with it; Stitchnit kicks over a table of candles; the friends and Dr. B talk about the Headmistress; Stitchnit reveals the pilot program rule that if any of them leave or fail, "the entire process would be kind of a wash" — 00:50:58; scene 00:47:28–00:52:38
- 00:52:44 They run to help Sam, who stalled by explaining "Terminator" (Brains DC 5, a 2) and now leaves; Sam's date with Fergus is set; Aabria cuts a week ahead — 00:52:44–00:55:34
- 00:55:34 Bibble's Bog on a Saturday, a founders festival; Sam goes to the Questing Beast pub; an old bearded dwarf barkeeper; the story of Sir Bibble drowned by druids; the Frunthwinkle sings and eats Nibble's Bog — 00:55:34–00:59:38
- 00:59:38 Dream (a week later, less sparkly) and the boys sneak into the pub; Khanh joins Jammer; Evan's long speech to Dream about worth; Jammer and Khanh leave — 00:59:38–01:03:27
- 01:03:29 Sam and Fergus: Fergus tells his family story; Sam Charm DC 14 (15): Fergus half-admits Boudicca may have told Tallulah nothing would happen ("But I don't really know."), and recalls someone (apparently the Headmistress, as Sam's "she meaning the Headmistress?" gets "eh, yeah") saying at the start of the year that the exchange students were coming; he paraphrases it himself: "If we get you to leave then it's W column."; the friends overhear — 01:03:29–01:11:03
- 01:11:06 Evan brings Dream drinks, "I can fix you" exchange; Jammer and Khanh walk, Jammer bluffs that he knows about the tournament (Grit DC 8, a 2), is caught, and learns the four are "the other team from Gowpenny" — 01:12:57; scene 01:11:06–01:13:58
- 01:13:42 Jammer summons his basketball to calm down (Brawn DC 6, half); the friends regroup; Dream says "Anybody can learn magic. Anybody." 01:15:51 (Fergus had said it earlier, 01:08:57) and Khanh confirms it and says the tournament with Rosemont and Tunavik starts in minutes; Khanh's own reading, which she hedges ("I don't think it's everyone"), is that they were put forward to fail, and Jammer paraphrases it as "somebody submitted us to be the people so that we would lose, or die." 01:20:55 — scene 01:13:47–01:21:29
- 01:19:37 Khanh tells the four they should have known "all term long that you were selected" and that "Everyone here is trying to fuck you" — 01:19:37
- 01:21:29 Jammer: "Is this something that if we win it, we fuckin' will smash it in the other people's faces?"; the team chants "Chimeron on three, family on six, Muggle on nine" 01:22:55; Evan chants "U-S-A!" (01:23:44) and the Frunthwinkle joins in ("USA." — 01:24:09); Dream tries to sober Sam (Grit DC 10, 6 and 8); they fly back on their brooms — 01:21:29–01:27:08
- 01:27:12 At Gowpenny: stadium seating, other school flags, a dragon mini on the highest tower; Philtrum announces the first challenge — a pumpkin into a carriage, mice into humans and horses (the model adds "And the dress") — 01:27:12–01:31:00
- 01:30:11 Sam fails Brains; Dream's Charm (5 and 10, both 13) brings hundreds of woodland creatures; result: four stallions, a fiber-optic gown, a red Tesla; Dream announces "K"; Gowpenny finishes first, the trio fourth; Khanh says to Jammer "You'd look good in that dress." — 01:39:21; scene 01:30:11–01:39:26
- 01:39:43 Challenge two, wizard duels (two fighters per team, single elimination); Sam duels a tall opponent kindly (Fight 8, Charm 6 vs 15, Grit 9, Flight 14) and cracks his wand when she pulls it (Aabria says "your wand is made of mirror", but the context shows it is the opponent's wand); Jammer streams it (Brawn 15) — 01:39:43–01:50:30
- 01:50:30 Evan's duel: adult fans in "Kelmp" jerseys; Evan scares the Rosemont student (Grit 9); in the opposed Fight he rolls one 28 (the magic die exploded) and calls it "a nice even 30", and a control Grit roll (4 plus six tokens = 10) lets him send the boy to see his funeral; the boy ages and breaks his wand; Rosemont pulls out of the tournament — 01:50:30–02:01:36
- 02:01:36 One of the two Tunavik teams is removed from the running; Evan and Jammer make a smoothie; Khanh explains the dragon chase; Tallulah casts a spell at Cleo's back, and Dream rolls to dispel it (DC 13, 16; the stat is not named); Cleo grabs the spell and storms back to the trio, and "They start a massive argument" (02:07:50); the Headmistress announces "the dragon chase" with "No rules." — 02:01:36–02:09:09
- 02:09:20 The chase: group Flight needs "better than a 40"; Evan hurls his phone at the dragon (Brawn DC 8, an 8) and Dream's birds help (Charm 13); the DC drops to 32; the group beats it; Sam and Dream talk to the dragon (14 and 4): she is Alexis and works at a bank — 02:09:20–02:19:30
- 02:19:32 Alexis wants gold or a fight; Jammer flies in and Heismans away a green spell (Brawn DC 12); the trio arrives; Evan blasts all three with a concussive wave (22); Fergus and Digby approach; Sam's air-ball spell at Fergus' wand fails (Brawn, 6 vs 20) — 02:19:32–02:29:31
- 02:29:31 Digby casts and Dream shields him (Grit DC 20, 20); Tallulah (a 36 roll) aims a necrotic spell at the dragon; Jammer shares the burden of the spell (Brawn DC 18, 15 plus 2 tokens), Sam helps; Evan and Dream attack Tallulah's wand in the Box of Doom, and a sky-blue bubble locks it; Fergus joins the hands; Alexis flicks the scale to Jammer — 02:29:31–02:45:41
- 02:45:49 Gold fireworks as Gowpenny completes the trial; Aabria asks each player for an epilogue — Sam, K, Evan, Jammer; she closes the season — 02:45:44–02:54:55
