Swirlwarden, the Suckershield, is first seen when an arrow is about to hit the king and Theobald uses his bonus action to take the damage for him CC E2·00:56:23. Brennan describes Theobald leaping like a Secret Service agent to take the arrow in the chest CC E2·00:56:28. The item's card calls it a magical shield that gives +1 to Armor Class and lets him use his reaction to move up to 30 feet toward an attacked ally and take the damage instead CC E2·00:56:29.

Swirlwarden is Theobald's magical shield, the Suckershield, which lets him leap to an attacked ally and take their damage CC E2·00:56:29. In CC_03 he uses it for a reaction leap to catch a circlet that Ruby has thrown aside CC E3·01:04:52. In the cathedral fight in Comida he uses it as a reaction to jump forward CC E6·00:09:22. In CC_08 it glows when Theobald is drowning under the sea, and it says "A member of the House of Rocks is in danger." CC E8·01:52:36. Brennan then has him leap into the boat and take 13 points of damage in the way of the attack CC E8·01:52:44.

The shield's card is shown again in CC_12 CC E12·02:12:44. In the final battle Theobald throws Swirlwarden up and Brennan describes the largest shield he has ever conjured, a 40-foot shield that the Vegetanian celery horses smash into CC E16·01:57:28.
