Holofract

In the fourth episode Brennan explains the holofract as a concept from theoretical computing: if you cut a piece of something that can create a hologram, it still creates the full image, just smaller SOE4·01:55:00. He says this one appears to be a partial fraction of a much larger thing SOE4·01:55:00. Brennan says its maker is an organic computer, and that this computer grew SOE4·01:55:00.

The holofract is the organic polyhedral housing of the planetary computer Gnosis, which Brennan describes as a partial fraction of a much larger thing, like a piece of a hologram SOE4·01:55:00 SOE6·01:24:35. In the sixth episode Zortch says that while the crew have the holofract, Gnosis cannot be interfaced with through Rubian V by his parent or the court SOE6·00:36:53. When Sidney and Zortch boot it, it levitates in the lock and Zortch gasps that it is happening SOE6·01:29:50 SOE6·01:30:14. In the twelfth episode Gnosis says Zortch created the holofract of it and saved it, and that its presence on the ship means great forces rally against the crew SOE12·00:53:21.

In the sixteenth episode Zortch says the Galactic Girl Guides have Gnosis as a collateral down payment, and Zortch rides Aurora Nebbins with Gnosis as the girls run for the ship SOE16·01:56:42 SOE16·02:20:28. In the final battle Brennan says the holofract begins to separate from itself, and Gnosis says "I'll see you everywhere" as it disintegrates SOE18·02:20:51 SOE18·02:20:58. UFTP then reports that it is no longer getting a reading on the holofract SOE18·02:21:28.
