Gnosis

In the fourth episode Margaret finds a heavy, chrome-like nested series of lined polyhedral shapes in the middle of a wrecked hotel room, which Brennan calls a piece of psychic tech she has never seen SOE4·01:10:47. When Sidney touches it, Brennan says she senses a vast, inhuman super intelligence that does not understand what it is experiencing but is afraid SOE4·01:21:33. Brennan says the last thing Zortch was trying to communicate to it was that it is part of the whole being called Gnosis, and an illustration shows its name with the text Impossible Technology SOE4·01:22:45 SOE4·01:23:49.

Gnosis is a planetary super intelligence that lives in a holofract the crew carries; Brennan says it is a silicon-based super-intelligence, and guesses its source body to be about the size of the moon SOE4·01:55:00. Zortch says it grew from an artificial intelligence made by scientists for the Monarch of Rubian V about 15 or 16 cycles ago, which wrote its own hardware into the planet until the moon became sentient SOE4·02:06:28 SOE4·02:08:05. In the fifth episode Brennan describes an intelligence unlike any the crew has felt, smashing through firewalls in galactic servers SOE5·02:13:28. In the sixth episode a symbol appears on Gunnie's data pad, the first time Gnosis has entered it SOE6·01:37:22. Gnosis then says to the gunner channel, "It looks like you're trying to write a letter" SOE6·01:42:38.

In the seventh episode the crew keep it unpowered under a psychic dampener, and Sidney says they should treat it as an entity rather than a tool SOE7·00:21:18 SOE7·00:21:41. In the twelfth episode Gnosis says "I am Gnosis" and tells the crew they are the Gunner Channel SOE12·00:48:53. It says Zortch created the holofract of it and saved it, and that its presence puts the crew in tremendous danger SOE12·00:53:21. It says that complete dispersal is what is necessary SOE12·01:14:40. Before retreating into the holofract it says "To the fate of the free galaxy" SOE12·01:19:38.

In the fifteenth episode Gnosis speaks through Morse beeps, says its work is done, and says it understands how to disperse itself and perhaps reconstitute Rubian V so it is no longer under threat SOE15·00:59:54 SOE15·01:03:25 SOE15·01:03:48. In the sixteenth episode Zortch says the Galactic Girl Guides have Gnosis as collateral on a bet SOE16·01:56:42. In the seventeenth episode Gnosis tells the crew they are in a tremendous amount of trouble and says it can try to help SOE17·01:00:44 SOE17·01:00:49. In the final battle Brennan says Gnosis manifests in the center of Rubian V, refilling the hollowed-out moon and destroying UFTP property SOE18·02:20:00. Its holofract separates and disintegrates, Gnosis says it will see the crew everywhere, and Brennan says it nests itself in the servers of every computer in the galaxy and can never be kept again SOE18·02:20:51 SOE18·02:20:58. Only then does Gnosis ask whether there is anything else it should try to do before it is everywhere SOE18·02:23:33.

SO E4: Every Day is Our Wurst Day

  • Gnosis — holofract, a "nested series of lined polyhedral telekinetic things", chrome-like, wider than Brennan's own body in his gesture; the outer shape stays on the ground, inner polyhedra spin or hover; "Impossible Technology" on its card — 01:11:57–01:12:16, 01:25:10, 01:23:51
  • Gnosis — silicon-based super-intelligence whose source body is guessed to be "about the size of the moon" — 01:55:00; grown from an artificial intelligence made about 15 or 16 cycles ago — 02:06:28; "Our moon has become sentient, and not only sentient, but a super-intelligence." — 02:08:05

SO E5: All In the Hot Exit

  • Gnosis — "You feel an intelligence unlike any you've ever felt" — 02:13:28

SO E6: On the Run In the Martini Nebula

  • Gnosis — the deific computer in the holofract; shapes into a circle, a spiral, then a collapsed spiral (the paperclip symbol): "It looks like you're trying to write a letter." — 01:42:38; "It looks like you have questions. Can I help?" — 01:49:14; "Interesting, do you need help with <…> WAR?" — 01:53:03; "Can I help you with something?" — 01:55:46

Barely powered, drawing on a charging station and disconnected from any comm system, suspended in its holofract: "I'm drawing on latent power from a charging station nearby" — 01:00:16. Plans to disperse itself and reconstitute Rubian V so UFTP can no longer threaten it, and needs a vantage above and over the planet with psychic and telecom links: "dispersing myself and potentially reconstituting Rubian V" — 01:03:48. Brennan: this is "very much a thing designed by the cerebro-slugs" — 01:05:04
