In the volcano forge he sneak-attacks Galfast Hamhead, is hit for 54 by Percival, and bargains with a sentient eagle by calling his ship on a Hearing Stone BK E2·00:46:41 BK E2·01:19:22 BK E2·01:21:31 BK E2·01:22:39. He finishes Galfast with a sneak attack and protests that Percival has just stabbed him three times BK E2·02:04:07 BK E2·02:09:22. Aboard The Siren he faces Tavian, who kills Bad Henry BK E4·01:41:44. Markus wants Tavian to suffer rather than die, but J'er'em'ih kills Tavian BK E4·01:01:48 BK E4·01:59:14. Markus kicks a troll in the chest out into the open sky, and it begins to plummet into the volcano BK E4·02:27:32. Later the explosion rends the belly of The Siren and Olag rips the front of the ship in half BK E4·02:39:45 BK E4·02:40:01. While falling he reflects that he finally has what he wanted, at the cost of Bad Henry and Anne, and later proposes that as heir to Kaelstoop he could grant the others sanctuary BK E5·00:21:42 BK E5·00:46:06.
In the final battle his speech to the goblins is cut off by Olag BK E6·00:02:28 BK E6·00:02:39. He takes off his mask and persuades a statue for the third blessing BK E6·01:32:29 BK E6·01:33:27. For the fourth statue he bargains to be stuck falling forever with Olag, then reappears next to Maggie with a sword in his stomach BK E6·02:14:25 BK E6·02:16:07 BK E6·02:20:41. He returns by crossbow rope and gives his blessing, and gold coins flow from his stomach BK E6·02:37:15 BK E6·02:42:00. At the end John Feathers offers him a score at a small sky nation with an old king and one heir, and Markus dives onto John's back and flies off BK E6·02:48:05 BK E6·02:48:27.
