Misfits and Magic, episode 1: The Chosen Ones |
Owls found four American teenagers and delivered letters accepting them to Gowpenny Academy of the Arcane Arts: Whitney Jammer, a Chicago basketball player, Dream, a Seattle girl who argued online about Steven Universe, Sam Black, a Portland streamer, and Evan Kelmp, who lived in unused summer-camp bunks in Millersburg, Iowa. Each swallowed or crushed an owl pellet, and all four appeared together on a magical London street, where Jammer knew Sam from her stream and Sam and Dream knew each other from the internet. Headmistress Philtrum called them the first foreign exchange students and clamped Jammer's mouth shut with a spell when he kept saying the word Muggle. Evan privately asked her for a doctor who could make him non-magical, but she refused, and something in his mind spoke before she vanished mid-sentence. The four bought identical wooden wands at Ace of Wands, then three red-robed students, Tallulah, Digsby and Fergus, led them to a broom shop and a familiar shop, where Jammer got a basketball, Sam a piglet she named Terminator 2 and Dream a talking chipmunk, Theodore, while every animal fled from Evan and the owner saw that he cast no shadow. Afterwards Evan told the others he was dangerous to be around, and when Digsby said there were lots of evil wizards in the world, Evan threw him onto a rock in the sea without a wand, and a voice in the crowd murmured, "Dark One? Interesting." 02:27:30 00:03:45–02:27:35
Misfits and Magic, episode 2: Class Conflict
After a night at the Knave's Navel, the four arrived at Gowpenny, where Dream made a hotspot for everyone's phones and Jammer chased down an eleven-year-old who ran to report him for calling the four the muggles. In the Great Hall Philtrum explained the four houses, Evan objected that sorting children by traits was tracking, and the four decided to stay and change the system from inside. Dream stepped onto the dais, and Philtrum interrupted and put all four in Chimeron, the goat house, where Coggle and Hoggle Undergus showed them around and a boy named Peter told Evan about the rumour that he had sent Digsby to hell. Next morning Dr. Norman Boodle, their head of house, handed out schedules, and then Jammer's attempt to summon weights sent an iron spike through Evan's thigh, from which a blood cobra emerged; Sam talked the cobra back into Evan, Dream healed the wound with fire, and Evan ran from the room in tears. In potions the cauldron Professor Viniscus set them a healing potion, and in natura the Frunthwinkle greeted them while Sam's wand became a chrome mirror. Khanh Nguyen, a Hercinil student, taught them a paper-airplane message spell, and as the bell rang for applied evocation, a bang and a burst of fire came out of the classroom door. 00:01:38–02:11:45
Misfits and Magic, episode 3: Family On Six
The four jumped back from the flaming door of the Applied Evocation Room, where a ten-foot fire construct stomped around and Aqrabus students pressed against the wall; Dream and Jammer caged it with furniture, Dream's sung plea made it sit down, and Evan reached bare-handed into the fire and pulled out Penfrew Lairmsbury, a green-robed Aqrabus student. After six hooded figures entered, Evan's eyes went black and the ghost of Professor Criggle appeared, and Criggle offered a trip to the nurse, which Evan accepted. Nurse David Stitchnit examined Evan's arm and offered an outpatient exorcism that would end his magic and send him home, and Evan said he wanted the treatment. The four learned to fly on brooms and Sam saw threads of connection running from Jammer to the others; a month later they played scuppers for Chimeron against Hercinil, until Tallulah aimed a spell at Evan's chest, Dream teleported in front of him, and a blue bolt blew up a goal as Evan and Dream vanished. They reappeared in the common room transformed, Philtrum ended the game with students missing, and Hercinil won. Later dark voices spoke through Evan and one named Grasphlax offered to trade Evan for Sam's soul, until Dream's dispel spell froze them, Jammer wrenched Evan free and Evan threw his wand away; Evan said he no longer heard the crowd inside him, Dream kissed him, and when Nurse Stitchnit arrived, Jammer told him Evan needed his appointment moved up. 00:01:33–02:07:56
Misfits and Magic, episode 4: We're the Heroes
Evan asked Nurse Stitchnit to move his appointment up and told his friends the procedure would make him a Muggle with his memory wiped, and Jammer, Sam and Dream argued that he must stay. When Philtrum came to escort Evan to the nurse, his friends stalled her while Evan used Jammer's phone to call his shadow and order it to fetch weights, and it brought Jammer a full gym. Evan told Philtrum he had changed his mind; Sam, taken to Philtrum's office, lost her phone and filed a formal complaint, and at the infirmary Stitchnit revealed that if any of the four left or failed, the pilot program would be a wash. A week later at Bibble's Bog, Fergus told Sam that someone had said at the start of the year that the exchange students were coming, and Jammer learned from Khanh that the four were Gowpenny's other team in a tournament against Rosemont and Tunavik, which she believed they had been put forward to lose, so they resolved to win it. The four finished first in the pumpkin-and-mice challenge, Evan's duel drove Rosemont out of the tournament, and in the dragon chase they talked to the dragon Alexis; when Tallulah aimed a necrotic spell at her, Jammer shared its burden while Evan and Dream locked Tallulah's wand, and Alexis flicked her scale to Jammer as Gowpenny completed the trial. In the end the pilot program was a success, and Dr. Boodle became headmaster. 00:01:26–02:54:55
