Mentopolis, episode 1: The Big Guy
Mentopolis is a noir city inside the mind of Elias Hodge, a junior researcher at Gobstopper Industries, and the story opens with a murder at the Synaptic Switchboard of Cerebell Pacific. Detective Hunch Curio takes on a client who calls herself Stacy Fakename before giving her real name, Imelda Pulse, and showing him a buried Daily Observer article about a packet on a desk ready to go to the big wigs upstairs, while the reporter Anastasia Tension works the crime scene, where the sister of the murdered Norrell Ojiccle points her to Sugah's. At Sugah's speakeasy its owner, Dan Fucks, talks Chief Alexander Tightass down during a raid, and the hitman The Fix, who has overheard Donny Urges at the next table, scares Donny's gang off in an alley and is handed a file on a child, the newsie Conrad Schintz, by District Attorney Mark Bition and the mayor's deputy chief of staff, Mr. Lance. Conrad, who sells papers with his basset hound Justin Fication and leaves notes on Sugah's door, is dragged inside by Dan, and when Imelda shows a gold key on a chain, Anastasia ties it to a shattered keyhole at the switchboard and Conrad realises that his paper reached one of the few people who can make the big guy act. Slipping away during the argument, Conrad is grabbed by gangsters who tell him "Mr. Avaricci wants to meet with you" 01:50:50. Mentopolis, episode 2: The Scattered Mind
Conrad has survived, and outside Sugah's Hunch recognises two of the crushed goons as enforcers of the Avaricci family, then dives in front of Conrad when The Fix tries to take him. Justin calls Conrad the big guy's conscience, Conrad says the big guy works for a pharmaceutical company on technology about mind reading, and a bullhorn announces Mayor Logic's state of emergency and that the eyes are closed. In Nostalgia's diner The Fix admits that the DA, Mr. Bition, gave him a contract and tells the group "I do not know what to do when I'm not being told what to do" 00:31:18, and they see that both the Avaricci family and the DA want Conrad dead. The party splits up, and while Anastasia and Dan find a dying pain messenger at Oblongata Station whose message tells of a bleeding head, The Fix and Conrad fetch the ice skates that are to prove Conrad dead to the DA, and Hunch and Imelda get the Gobstopper Psychometer Project book from the Hippo Campus, which Imelda decides to steal. They regroup at De'lux Industrial in Occipital Park and beat a band of goons, and Hunch's words wither one of them, Simon Praise, who names Don Avaricci before he dies. Mentopolis, episode 3: F For Freezer
A pressure gauge appears, its needle at 80 in the yellow, and all Moxie costs double. Conrad decides to turn himself in, The Fix says he will tell Bition he killed the boy, and the group talks Conrad into staying for what Hunch keeps calling the balls plan. Plugged into an iris panel at De'lux Industrial, the memory book shows Elias, his boss Mr. Henry, four star generals, and Don Avaricci and the DA at the edge of the memory, and a mirrored frequency in its margins takes shape as a blinding white key. Anastasia remembers a switchboard at Oblongata Station with a central keyhole and four keyholes each marked F and chips her family's key out of the ice in her freezer, while Hunch, Dan and Conrad learn from Joey Sneezes that Mayor Logic fired the four Fs. At an illicit boxing ring the old woman in Dom Nuntz's corner, Ivana Popov, tells Conrad "You only ever knew me back when I was Fight" 01:26:43 and coughs up a key when he punches her, and after Hunch, signed in as Stacy Fakename, beats Dom, who denies being Fight when Dan accuses him, Ivana agrees to come to Oblongata Station. At City Hall The Fix tells Bition he killed the kid, and a mystery figure steps out of a side door and sends a white key streaking for his throat. 00:01:06–01:51:16
Mentopolis, episode 4: Grappling With Death
Imelda and Anastasia slip past the shock troopers into Oblongata Station, where Anastasia calls in a favor with the station agent, Max Medula, and a poster shows a wanted Stacy Fakename. Conrad, Hunch, Dan, Ivana and Justin arrive, the keys go into the switchboard, the oculus shows a grappling hook at Elias's crotch and the pressure climbs into the red, while Dan walks out to the troopers announcing that it is sex time and is beaten unconscious, and Conrad is arrested as Stacy Fakename. In the DA's office the figure with the white key tells The Fix "We need you on the winning side, Fix" 00:43:16, and The Fix jumps out of the window and later, at Las Vagus Casino, brings the pressure down into the green. Anastasia wins over Officer Joie de Vivre, who turns the troopers on the gangsters tailing the paddy wagon so that the women and Conrad drive off in it, Hunch revives Dan with frozen steaks, and Conrad drives into Mayor Logic's office, where pulling the mayor's bow tie shows an F, Ivana greets him as her brother, and he admits he changed his name from Freeze. Punched by Conrad, he coughs up a key and orders the legs to freeze so that the big guy kicks through a window, and he later tells the city in an announcement that his name is Frank Freeze. At the precinct Dan's handcuff trick kills Chief Tightass, and in the evidence locker Hunch finds a copper pistol bought by Norrell Ojiccle from Thalamus and Sons, while The Fix recognises the boy in Pasha's photograph as Ichabod Ice Skates. 00:00:58–02:07:16
Mentopolis, episode 5: Emergency Powers
At Thalamus & Sons The Fix admits he left the ice skates in the DA's office, Mr. Thalamus tells how Norrell asked whether the copper gun's shot was strong enough to tear through metal, and Dan finds a child's snake drawing that Conrad knows as Ronnie Reptile's. The oculus shows Elias at his desk with schematics changed to turn the psychometer into a mind-control ray, and Frank Freeze, pressed by The Fix, names the keyholes. At Cerebell Pacific Imelda turns Deputy Chief of Staff Lance with a kiss and puts her key back in so that Elias scoops up the schematics, and as Ivana shoots the switchboard Imelda knows that no one came to murder Norrell, but someone came with a white key to end Mentopolis and met a man who had prepared to blow a hole through the keyhole and save the city. In court Anastasia argues Dan's case until Judge Fusion awards Dan emergency powers and has Bition arrested, and when he tells her she will never get away with this she answers "I just did" 01:23:47. Don Avaricci's men seize Dan and Anastasia, and at Madam Loathing's Home the towering figure with the white key, revealed as Madam Loathing, turns Justin into a snarling German Shepherd until Hunch breaks her forearm and Conrad plunges an ice skate into Justin's chest, where it becomes his silvery key. At Chateaux Appetit the Don plans to use Dan to have Conrad shot, and Anastasia gets Fanny Fawnsworth's key, then rescues the thief who stole her own key, who has an F on her chest and gives her name as Stacy Fakename, the real Flight. 00:08:20–02:29:20
Mentopolis, episode 6: Case Closed
Everyone converges on Oblongata Station in the rain, where Imelda's key boots the PA, Max pulls the alarm, and Anastasia gathers the F keys, talking Ivana into handing over hers and punching Stacy for hers. Dan steps out of Don Avaricci's car to lure Conrad, Madam Loathing attacks Anastasia with the white key, and Ivana, her eyes white, punches Hunch out of the building, until Conrad puts his silver key into the fight response, Elias knocks out Mr. Henry, the white leaves Ivana's eyes and Wilton brings the trains. The gangsters and then Don Avaricci shoot Dan, who falls as blood pools, The Fix takes the white key from Loathing and swallows it, and when Conrad tells Loathing that Elias needs every part of himself, she tells Elias over the microphone that inventing a mind-control ray is inexcusable and orders him to take the papers and run, Officer Joie de Vivre reveals himself as a rebel spy and Dan comes to. The Fix knocks the Don out, and Elias decks a party-goer for a birthday cake, flees Gobstopper Industries with the documents to take them to the newspaper as Anastasia urges, asks the kind person from the coffee shop to go ice skating and leaves in a cab with her number, having acted on his conscience and perhaps saved the world from a terrible danger, as the pressure fades. In the epilogues Danielle has Elias blow the whistle at the newspaper and wait in protective custody for his ice-skating date, Trapp has Hunch chase one last lead, Foot Stuff, which Brennan ends with a 40-foot sasquatch, Freddie has Dan make Conrad his partner in the alley behind a renovated Sugah's, and Danielle has Anastasia promoted to page two. Hank has The Fix bring Pasha to Madam Loathing's Home, where Brennan reveals her long-lost brother Ichabod in hockey pads, The Fix proposes almost by accident and Pasha accepts, and Madam Loathing, now Guilta, leaves them her house and hands The Fix a compass for Conrad that he swallows, and Siobhan has Imelda elope with Lance and later tell Hunch the song he could not remember, to which he says "Another case closed." 01:54:16 00:06:36–01:54:23
