The Nightmare King

The Nightmare King is only named through a page of runes: Brennan describes the runes as coming from "the strange realm of the Nightmare King", runes of darkness and midnight, runes against Helio and Sol E2·01:12:25. The page is called a piece of horrible dark magic E2·01:12:25.

The Nightmare King is not seen in season 1; he is named only through the runes on a parchment that Brennan describes as coming from his strange realm, runes of darkness and midnight and against Helio and Sol E2·01:12:25.

The Nightmare King is the dark king whose forest, Sylvaire, lies behind the season's quest to retrieve his crown, and whose realm is the source of the runes first seen in season 1 E2·01:12:25 S2E3a·00:04:42 S2E6·02:10:58. Arianwen Abernant tells Adaine that everything is almost done, they are at the center of the forest, and they are going to bring the Nightmare King back S2E18·02:20:21. He appears on screen as a glowing lich skeleton with tattered robes and a black crown, and sends visions of fear at Kristen Applebees, telling her she worships something dead and gone S2E19·02:22:33. In the season's last battle he stands taller than mountains with a crowned skull and says, colder than death, "Do you dare?" S2E20·02:26:36 S2E20·02:27:05. He casts Finger of Death on Gorthalax the Insatiable S2E20·02:58:20. At the end he shudders, stops and buckles, and his massive crown tumbles, shrinks and clatters onto the ledge S2E20·03:59:30.

The Nightmare King is the dark king whose forest Sylvaire lies behind the season 2 quest to retrieve his crown, and whose crown tumbles and shrinks at the end of that season S2E6·02:10:58 S2E20·03:59:30.

In season 3 a recap says he gives a protective shroud over Elmville S3E18·00:03:56. In the last battle his yawning face appears over the ship, and his giant fist swings at the ship and misses, a punch that would have dealt 12d6 + 20 damage S3E18·01:11:20 S3E18·01:13:08.
