The American Dream
Robert tells Pete that the city "is the gateway to the American Dream, kid" UC E7·01:53:04. He adds "Rags to riches, making something of yourself, that's your story, that's my story too" UC E7·01:53:04.
The American Dream is a paragon, a dream so large that bringing it into the Waking World would threaten the cosmos, and Nod calls it "a very powerful dream indeed" UC E9·00:40:25 UC E9·00:40:34. Kingston asks Nod whether Robert Moses is trying to bring it into the Waking World, and Ricky guesses he wants to create a fourth space UC E9·00:42:58 UC E9·00:43:24. At the end of the episode before the last fight, Brennan says the paragon beyond the Golden Door looks like many things to each of them, and a voice says "This… is a wicked place. I would see this changed" UC E15·01:58:21 UC E15·01:57:58.
On New Year's Eve in Times Square it appears hovering above the party as a tall, clean cut, square-jawed, blond haired, blue-eyed man UC E16·00:07:54 UC E16·00:08:10. In a deep, echoing voice it says "This place is filthy. It stinks here of urine and excrement" UC E16·00:08:57. Ricky's Divine Sense shows it is a celestial UC E16·00:41:00. Its eyes send a ray of light into Alejandro, who is sent into the tornado and, Brennan says, "is destroyed", and it tells the party "Submit or face the same fate" UC E16·01:42:30 UC E16·01:43:04 UC E16·01:43:28. It also hits Santa with its eye beams UC E17·00:12:32.
It makes offers to the heroes, telling Ricky it can give him everything he has ever wanted if he lets it pass, and telling Kingston that it will make his dream real, which Kingston refuses UC E17·00:15:13 UC E17·00:27:17 UC E17·00:27:34. It calls Pete "the voice of my realm" and asks for his help to be real UC E17·00:28:23 UC E17·00:28:27. Pete's Arcana roll shows its true form is formless, and Brennan says the image of it was created by Robert pulling it here UC E17·00:30:10 UC E17·00:31:39. After Rowan's conversation with it, Brennan says it diminishes in size and much of the fight goes out of it UC E17·00:24:29.
Ricky cleaves into its chest, and its corporeal form is utterly destroyed, leaving a pillar of raw, roiling dream fire UC E17·00:49:38. Pete freezes the flame, and the frozen flame flies back into the Golden Door while Robert screams UC E17·01:03:39 UC E17·01:11:28. The Golden Door then shuts UC E17·01:22:42.
