The Golden Door

Nod looks up and says "The Golden Door" UC E9·00:39:32, and Pete describes it as a golden rectangle UC E9·00:39:37. Nod explains that it is a paragon doorway, created when a dream is so powerful that its meaning keeps moving between Dream and Waking UC E9·00:41:42. Nod adds that it grows more real as more people come looking for it and believe in it UC E9·00:41:42. Later Brennan shows it hanging in the sky over the city, with the torch of the Statue of Liberty lifted towards it UC E9·01:09:43.

The Golden Door is a paragon doorway: a dream so important that it keeps moving between Dream and Waking, with the American Dream, "Prosperity, hope", behind it UC E9·00:41:42 UC E16·00:03:22. Nod says it has been partly in the Waking World since Emma Lazarus wrote her poem, that Robert Moses cannot come to Nod, and that the door is locked, and the more real it becomes the greater the risk that the paragon is drawn through UC E9·00:49:35 UC E9·00:52:11. After the key to the city is mentioned, Nod says the lock on the Golden Door is gone UC E9·00:50:50. The Statue of Liberty shows Ricky and Kugrash green dollars flowing to and from the door like blood in veins, and says it promises a life worth living but warns of losing the dream in the pursuit of it UC E9·01:11:48 UC E9·01:12:47.

Robert Moses, unable to enter Nod, casts through a web of currency symbols drawn in blood that taps the door, and the sigil in blood appears in front of the door where a knob would be UC E14·00:13:33 UC E14·01:20:19. He holds up a lock, the spectral key to the city shoots into the lock in the Golden Door, and the door opens as Nod's buildings buckle UC E14·02:00:18. Pete later sees it fully open in the dream storm, a hex lock keeping it open UC E15·00:10:24. At midnight on New Year's Eve, when the phylactery and time stone shatter, the door opens in the eye of the tornado and the American Dream begins to emerge UC E15·01:57:04. Brennan describes the dream that comes through as Robert's own, summoned through the Golden Door UC E17·00:32:08.

Kugrash freezes the flame in front of the door, and it is thrown back through the Golden Door while Robert screams UC E17·01:03:39 UC E17·01:11:28. The Golden Door then shuts and disappears UC E17·01:22:42. After the victory it is sealed and Nod is restored UC E17·01:31:01.
