Red silk key
While Daisy checks Squire Badger's body in the study, Brennan says she feels a single key attached to a piece of red silk in his inner pocket MM E3·01:43:23 MM E3·01:46:49. Brennan remarks that a lord would not normally carry keys, which would be a valet's job, and that it is a key, not a contract MM E3·01:46:49. Daisy swipes it and puts it between her bosoms MM E3·01:47:36.
Daisy palms the key over to Buckster in MM_04, and later Buckster hands it back and then takes it again, since the servants' elevator has a keyhole MM E4·01:02:24 MM E4·01:45:48 MM E4·01:46:22. In MM_05 Brennan says the key fits in the keyhole in the off position MM E5·00:12:11. He also says that Mr. Gilfoyle would have to have a copy, and leaves it to Buckster to decide whether the squire would let his butler have one MM E5·00:06:45. Buckster turns the key to on, the elevator's buttons light up, and the group rides up MM E5·00:13:02 MM E5·00:13:39.
In MM_06, when the three come back down in the elevator, Gilfoyle says that returning "Squire Brockhollow's key" would be an excellent first impression MM E6·00:49:42. Gilfoyle holds the key in his hand MM E6·01:00:00. He says "this key with the red silk tag was amongst Squire Brockhollow's personal effects lifted from his very corpse." MM E6·01:00:28. Mr. Harding adds "or perhaps, lifted from him in the moments of his death." MM E6·01:00:45. Jeremy says a key was stolen from his father, from his body or his living person MM E6·01:13:01. Buckster claims they found the key on the ground in the study and were taking it back to the servants' quarters MM E6·01:15:21 MM E6·01:56:45.
In MM_07 Sam says that either Harding or Gilfoyle has the key, and that the party no longer has it MM E7·00:53:00. Up in the vent, Gangie drops a fish hook on a line into the inside pocket of Mr. Gilfoyle's jacket, and Brennan says he has the key to the elevator MM E7·02:08:11. In MM_08 Brennan lists among what the party shares that Gangie has the key once more MM E8·00:18:58. Brennan describes the key: with its teeth facing straight down it is labelled off, a 90 degree clockwise turn to nine o'clock is labelled on, and two other directions are unlabeled MM E8·01:03:50. In the elevator Buckster has the key in his hand and turns it to three o'clock, an unlabeled side, and the elevator powers on and descends to the final unexplored wing of Loam Hall MM E8·01:20:42 MM E8·01:20:59 MM E8·01:21:06 MM E8·01:21:31.
In MM_09, when Rekha asks if the key was left in the elevator, Sam says he would have taken it with him, and Brennan agrees that is why "they're not able to get" there MM E9·01:17:04 MM E9·01:17:09 MM E9·01:17:12. Later, weighing which disguise Cottonbottom might wear, Ally leans toward the turtle "'cause he has had the key" MM E9·01:48:10.
