Medal of Valor

In the squire's secret study, Daisy finds that the medal Colonel Hawkins pulled off his coat and tossed into a drawer is a Medal of Valor MM E6·00:33:01. Brennan says it is the one "awarded to soldiers wounded in the line of duty" MM E6·00:33:53. Daisy swipes the medal and tucks it between her bosoms MM E6·00:35:07 MM E6·00:35:11.

Right after Daisy sees it in MM_06, the players start piecing it together: Rekha and Sam reason that a medal for a wounded soldier, the shrapnel in the body, and the squire's son not remembering him ever being wounded suggest the body is not Squire Badger MM E6·00:34:24 MM E6·00:34:35 MM E6·00:34:44. Ally adds that Gangie "dug up a soldier" MM E6·00:34:52. Daisy keeps the medal, which she calls a Medal of Honor, and in MM_09 notes it is a piece of metal in an electromagnified house MM E9·00:20:14.

In MM_09 Sam's theory is that Hawkins hid the Medal of Valor in the secret office because the body thought to be the squire was a war vet, while Ally guesses Hawkins kept it out of guilt over digging up that person's body MM E9·00:20:07 MM E9·00:20:43 MM E9·00:20:55 MM E9·00:20:57. In MM_10 Daisy still has a medal of honor on her person MM E10·01:39:44. In the epilogue Brennan says the medal was Hawkins' own, got from being injured in the war, and that he put it in the study drawer after the shrapnel was discovered as deniability, since the squire would have no record of such an injury, an attempt to cover it up MM E10·02:33:51 MM E10·02:34:04.
